Sometimes I have to think for a few seconds to remember which one had the swearing parrot at his funeral and which was the one who beat his would be assassin over the head with his cane at like 63 years old The important things. Andrew Johnson should have had a name change

I just realized they’re both Andrew Jackson stories Andrew Johnson apparently doesn’t have any fun stories like that. Apparently the most interesting thing he could do was become the first US president to be impeached. Boring. But here’s a short summary on google about the assassin story and a longer article with more detail. The would be assassin was found not guilty because of insanity and confined to mental institutions for the rest of his life. But Andrew Jackson kept trying to convince the court that it was a hired assassin due to politically motivated reasons.

“On January 30, 1835, Richard Lawrence, an unemployed house painter, produced two pistols and fired upon Andrew Jackson on the steps of the United States Capitol. Both pistols misfired and an outraged Jackson beat Lawrence with his walking cane.”
