Dear All,
This is JYP USA.
We would like to address the recent lawsuit filed by Kiera Grace Madder (hereafter referred to as "KG") and her public statements on social media.
In May of this year, KG left group residence and initiated discussions through her legal representatives. In response, we temporarily suspended VCHA’s planned activities and engaged in extensive discussions with KG’s representatives to explore potential resolutions. However, recently we have not received any response from KG’s representatives, leaving our legal representatives awaiting further communication.
We deeply regret KG’s decision to file a lawsuit and make unilateral public statements containing false and exaggerated claims. This action has caused significant harm to the other members of VCHA and JYP USA who have been working diligently on their upcoming album and projects for early 2025.
JYP USA will take all necessary measures to ensure that neither the other members of VCHA nor JYP USA suffer further harm as a result of this matter.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
JYP USA
yes but whilst such contracts may have held up in SK since SK's got differing cultures and norms and lawsThis is a really aggressive response, which makes me wonder just how rock solid their contract is for protecting JYPE from anything that went down.
To @Selfmate's point... even if you can't control the contract at the end, it's best to understand in advance just what you're going to be agreeing to. And be willing to walk away, even if it's your "dream."
Will definitely be interesting to see it tested, especially since this is all going to come down to what's in the contract and what's legally allowable. For example, minimum wage laws don't apply to independent contractors.yes but whilst such contracts may have held up in SK since SK's got differing cultures and norms and laws
such a contract is untested under US and specifically California??? laws
(for the rank and file) all companies not just kpop are going to try to get away with the bare min if possible
I said this to my friend a long time ago - you know why it's called minimum wage laws? 'cause if they could the companies would try to pay you even less than that if they weren't mandated by law
what's in the contract is one thing however the treatment of KG (and the rest of kpop idols???) is anotherWill definitely be interesting to see it tested, especially since this is all going to come down to what's in the contract and what's legally allowable. I definitely agree that the laws are just indicative of how much lower companies would go if they could get away with it. We see this with all the "shrinkflation" even though there are also laws about misleading packaging.
