this is honestly disgusting, telling a TEENAGE GIRL that she lacks self care because of her weight is gross. she is literally healthy. being at a healthy size and not starving yourself until your skin and bones is apparently lacking self care. Not to mention that some of the best dancers are thicker in size. jyp is a hypocrite. he talks about how he cares for mental health and cares for his artists and has a whole group (itzy) that's concept is about loving yourself and he's saying this disgusting ass shit to a teenage girl who is probably healthier than him.

also one meal a day?? shes still growing because shes a teenager, its recommended by doctors to have at least three meals a day. hes crazy.

He did the same with Jihyo during Sixteen when she was dancing better than a lot of thinner trainees than her.

Some idols are or used to be thinner than this young trainee and they dance very well.

Linking weight and motivation is gross.
exactly, some of the best dancers in the world are curvy and on the thicker side. what bothers me is that instead of just critiquing her dancing, he said some gross shit about self care. as if starving yourself so you can lose 15 pounds in three days is self care. it's gross.

It really infuriates me because I used to work in a medical structure for people dealing with anorexia and some of them wanted to be models. When I think about that now my stomach still turns because unfortunately not everyone can be saved while dealing with such problems.

what the actual f*ck... watching this made me feel so uncomfortable. this is such an awful thing to say, i feel so bad for this girl. there is a way to respectfully express your opinion about someone's dancing without judging their weight, especially considering that he's a grown man and she's still a teenager. also eating one meal a day is not the greatest example of self care either... it's so disappointing to see, but then again the same company made momo from twice eat nothing but ice for a week so i'm not even surprised at this point. i just hope this doesn't affect her self esteem later on.

This is pretty disgusting! I like JYP, but he needs to take a look at himself before talking about other people's weight.
I have heard many stories about the TWICE girls starving themselves to get into the shape that is expected of them.

Yesterday, I made a thread about Dreamcatcher's Gahyeon and how she has naturally lost the weight and she did it on her own terms, in her own way.

This poor girl looked like she wanted to burst into tears.

I understand constructive criticism, however, this criticism wasn't constructive at all and seemed like he was putting her down.

I really hope this doesn't affect her and that she can keep healthy and happy her own way.

So many young girls are unhappy with their weight even at the age of 6(!!)
I can't find it right now but basically Jo Frost (Supernanny) helped with a study and they let children (the youngest group was 6 years old but there were also 12 year olds I think) pick
1) how they think they look like (there were 5 pics with a pic how they actually looked and 4 pics making them look slimmer or more thick let's say
and
2) how they wish they'd look like

Majority of the children chose a thicker version of themselves for number 1 (some took the right pick of their actual body as well)
and almost all children choose a thinner or the thinnest version of themselves

6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN ALREADY HAVE THIS PERCEPTION THAT THEY SHOULD BE STICK SKINNY
Instead of telling young girls they should lose weight and hurt their body image further, we should encourage them to stay healthy.
Every body is different.

I don't see anything wrong with what he is saying. It's true when you are thin you are more flexible and faster.
not true at all lmao, just look at the royal family, a world-renowned dance team who does dances with harder choreo then any kpop group could ever think of, the majority of the people in the royal family are bigger than this girl lmao.

Well in order to do sports- even sth like dancing, it helps if your body type is fitting for said sport. Kpop is quite obsessed by looks so they turn being fit to being skinny as well cause they think it looks best. That's why trainees still get weighted monthly if not weekly in some companies and might get cut if they don't pass so some girls even throw up or don't drink in long while before the weighing. That's not healthy though and instead of being better at dancing it can make u worse, you have low energy and might even pass out.

Rather than commenting about her weight it could be better to state she's not fit enough if her movement is slow like JYP pointed out. That's still about management, eating better and doing more exercise.

One meal a day is not healthy though that's horrible advice. Your body will be low energy most of day, then after eating it tons you will first get very tired and then get energy, but that energy fades and you will again be low energy most of the day. Also you will have digestion issues with eating one big meal.

What a terrible thing to be criticized for. Starving yourself is the literal opposite of self-care. The focus should have been on her talents rather than her weight. Teenagers already have fragile self esteem about body image as it is, and it must have hurt her to hear something like this.

Honestly, this makes me wonder what's being said behind the cameras. Like we see this on video and we're appalled. Imagine what's being said behind closed doors... This industry is so cancerous....

I think he wasnt that harsh. She probably was dancing and singing bad.

I dont agree that weight means bad dancing shindong is one of SMs best dancers but in kpop weight management is important and its best to learn that early than to get bullied by knets for jt.

She looks perfectly fine to me tho.

okay but there was still no reason to bring up her weight, she looks like any other jyp artist. if you want to tell her train more in dancing and singing because she lacked then that's fine. but to bring up her weight as an excuse as to why she isn't dancing well... on national television when shes actually really healthy for her weight was not the right way to go. young teenage girls are already so sensitive about their weight, to put this kind of humiliation on her was a terrible thing to do. poor girl looked like she was gonna cry.
