Before you get angry at me, I think we all made a mutual agreement when joining this
website that we're all K-Pop fans so you know I'm nowhere near being a hater at all.
I just think that when a non netizen says "kpop gay haha" people just take it at face value and I don't blame them for that
But I feel like it's a discussion to be had just how important kpop is to the LGBTQ community

With Korea being a conservative country, there's not many openly gay or LGBTQ idols.
The only ones that come to my mind are Lady and Holand, and even they got tons of scrutiny.
What I mean is that K-Pop became a safe place for LGBTQ kids because of its nature.
K-Pop idols generally tend to be affectionate and friendly with their bandmates and sometimes to a large degree which is why
"Blank group acting gay for 7 minutes compilation" videos exist
I feel like fans seeing this normalizes their perception of being affectionate with those of the same sex, leading them to discover their identities
I actually believed I was straight for a long time until I began listening to BlackPink. At the time I wasn't as openly a fan of them because in 2020
K-Pop still had truckloads of unnecessary stigma, especially towards BP and Bangtan. But I would always keep up with the girls and listen to their music
And at some point, I started having a crush on my then-friend who we'll call Navi for time's sake. I didn't have much confidence to tell Navi at the time so I basically would project my feelings/vent to random Pinterest pictures of Rose and Lisa. But if it weren't for BlackPink, my internalized homophobia would have been way worse and I wouldn't be the person I am today.

Great story
I agree on some way, but i still don't like how ppl use the word in a negative way. Like "ew kpop is so gay why are u listening to it"
But your explanation made me realize i should use this example to clap back at haters
