Oshun is the Yoruba (people of southwestern Nigeria) goddess of love, freshwater, music, purity, fertility and beauty. In Yoruba mythology, she is credited with the creation of life as the main Orisha (Yoruba gods), who created the Earth, refused to let a female deity help them but begged for her help when they struggled to create life. She is the youngest of the Orishas and a benevolent goddess who promotes transformation and love but destroys those who defy her with floods and droughts.

There is a myth that blends Yoruba and Afro-Carribean legend, where she goes to the underworld, a realm of the dead filled with sorrow and darkness, and brings light, music and dancing to it, despite being ridiculed by those who believed she was too weak to go there. But this myth goes to show how she is willing to prove the Orisha wrong time and time again and her ability to bring light to even a realm of death.


Gameplay
Each of Oshun's songs carry a meaning but because they do not have lyrics, they are difficult to understand!​

• Using both of the music sheets below, your job is to decode the following song using the key provided and share the hidden sentence.​
• Each note will correspond to a letter, with a quarter rest (bold squiggly line) inducing a space.​
• PLEASE NOTE: a sharp, the symbol that looks like '#' and a flat, the symbol that looks sort of like a "b" right next to the notes indicate that is a different note than those without these symbols.​
• You do not need music literacy to solve this puzzle but let me know if you are struggling to understand how this works!​
