I found a random list of tourist traps around the world and while it was long I checked off 5 from the list I don’t really regret going to them though although the Eiffel Tower is kind of boring imo. But I don’t think they’re bad necessarily, they’re popular for a reason and it’s usually not just the promo that makes them known. The tourist selling stuff and whatnot isn’t great though I do agree with that.

It would be rather silly to go to Dubrovnik without visiting the old town for example, so yeah I agree

Honestly if you take into account national parks and that stuff the US is actually much more interesting than the Eiffel Tower. Geysers, interesting wild animals (like bison, wolves, alligators, ect), Death Valley, the Badlands, volcanoes and so on are all more interesting than a tall building imo

Are you saying the Eiffel Tower is more visited than all the national parks in the US? For the Eiffel tower the most generous estimate is 9 million about a year, compared to the US national park visitation rate of 312 million last year. Let's say one overestimated and one underestimated, they'd have to be 151 million off to break equal which doesn't seem right for either.

If these national parks were smack dab in the middle of big cities likely very many. Currently I have no clue, but given there’s only 312 million people in the US and that most people here don’t give a crap about national parks, I’d say a fair few. But if France can’t get their population to care about the Eiffel Tower and visit it then that seems like a them problem no?
