But did you know that one US president definitely both failed to win the popular vote and failed to get the most electoral votes?

In 1824, there were 4 candidates in the running for president: Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, and William Crawford. At this time, a nationwide popular vote wasn’t counted, but some states picked the electors in terms of popular vote. In the end, Andrew Jackson received the most popular votes (that are recorded) and the most electoral votes (99 votes). However, he failed to get the overall majority, and the House of Representatives opted to pick John Quincy Adam’s instead, despite him not getting the most in either category.

And if you’re wondering why I specified “definitely” at the start, it’s because if the mess that was the election of 1876. Might make a thread about it another time :sanapray:
