Now that The Mandalorian season 2 is coming in October and we're still holding the Star Wars event, I want to talk about the Mandalorians and their strong war culture.

First of all, the term Mandalorian is not used to define a particular species but a culture. The first people who call themselves mandalorians (around 7,000 BBY) weren't humans and not originally from the Planet Mandalore, the first Mandalorians were the Taung tribe from Coruscant. The Taungs were a humanoid species who practiced war as a way to eliminate weaknesses.

For this tribe, war was essential not only to be stronger but as a way of progress for their tribe. Due to the explosion of a volcano that made their life on Coruscant impossible, they had to look for a new planet and ended up settling on Planet Roon and under the command of a warlord whose name was Mandalore, (The first) they conquered another planet which later on was named after their great leader.

Taking the name of their home planet for call their own tribe, the mandalorians took the war culture to other levels. It was not only about fighting, it was also about the honor of the tribe, respecting their code. In that sense, they assumed advanced weapons and armor as part of their creed and the conquer of planets as a way to expand their belief of war as progress.
Eventually, they started to take into their community those who wanted and had the ability to fight. Many warriors (mostly humans) swore under the Mandalorian creed to follow their rules and lifestyle.

In canon, modern Mandalorians have abandoned the war culture (as something collective) to be bounty hunters or mercenaries. This came as consecuence of their several alliances with both Sith and Jedi (Mandalorians only pursue their own agendas not following any side of the force) and had to take part in many of their conflicts, ending on the Great Purge, which decimated most of their numbers.

One of the most common Mandalorian symbols, is the skull of a creature known as Mythosaurus which was native of planet Mandalore.
