Now let us continue the best introduction of the cutest chickies by yours truly…

Penny 1 (Hen)

We just call her Penny :haylul: So Penny and her sister… Penny look extremely alike and there really is no clear way for us to tell who is who unless we actually go into their run to say hello. The only difference is their personalities are slightly different. We’ve tried different ways to identify them like non toxic food coloring or just paying attention to a slight difference physically but there is nothing to tell them apart tbh. We just refer to them as “The Pennys”. Wherever one is the other is close by. This Penny is the one who’s more independent, prefers to not be picked up anymore but likes to come say hello and gets first dibs with the treats. She loves to get up on high places to perch and won’t take any bossing around from the boys.

Penny 2 (Hen)

Again we just call her Penny. I believe I’ve mentioned her before because a few months ago we had to bring her into the house because she didn’t look very good at all, very skinny, no energy and was very hunched over. She stayed in the house for a few weeks to get treatment, the vet couldn’t identify exactly what was going on but after piecing a few things together we believe she was egg bound which can be fatal if not treated within the first 24 to 48 hours. I’ll save you the details on why we believe that because it’s a little gross. She did incredibly well in the house and it was awesome to have one of the chicks following me around again. She claimed the ottoman as her own napping place, any food I ate she tried her best to grab it out of my hands and she loved all the cuddles. She’s again with the flock but still does remain to be quite sweet with us and doesn’t mind extra attention.

Maple (Hen)

She looks terrifying in the picture :lisalaugh:. Maple was given her name because as a chick she had beautiful brown reddish coloring. She still has some very unique coloring to her, one half of her is similar to gray and then it lightens into a light creamish-gray on her chest and then she’s dark gray on the head. She’s very pretty (I promise lol), we sometimes will call her Hawk because she resembles one ngl, especially as she got larger she looks like a wild bird. Maple is a nice girl but she prefers just to hang out with us and no pets anymore. She’s also the wannabe top hen, I can definitely see her taking that position when Pollo passes, she can be a bit of a bully to the others. She’ll even go after sparrows that hang out in their run, thankfully they’re fast enough to get away from her.

Stitch (Rooster)

This is the rooster I mentioned recently, the one who got injured, but as you can see you can’t even tell he was hurt. Stitch is the less dominant rooster and doesn’t go after us as much as his brother (by “going after” I mean quick lunges, neither of them have tried to full on attack us). He can actually be quite sweet and seems to like our company but he also doesn’t want us messing with the hens so he’s a bit conflicted :jisoosmh:. He and his brother will do a “happy dance” quite frequently, they’ll sort of slap their wings on the ground and tap dance basically, it’s absolutely adorable. You can’t see in the picture because he and the rest of the chickens are molting but he and his brother have these very long tail feathers that drag on the ground. They’re usually a metallic blueish green color and super pretty. The boys know they’re handsome.

Cotton (Hen)

Bad picture but she was running to get out of the snow. Cotton looks very similar to Velvet who I mentioned in the first thread, a way to tell them apart visually is that Cotton has a gray beard, Velvet does not. Their personalities are also drastically different. Cotton is our smallest hen and was given her name because she looked like a random ball of fluffy feathers with teeny tiny legs and a beak. Her first few weeks with me was difficult because she went through separation anxiety and would chirp way into the morning calling for her mama. She also had separation anxiety for the first month that I was transitioning them all over to outside which honestly broke my heart. Cotton is… A character, she’s the most unique hen I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet, I try not to have favorites but her, Millie and Cayenne I definitely have major soft spots for (I love them all though). Cotton doesn’t like pets much but she’s the first to come say hello, loves standing on your feet, trying to catch a ride on your back, following you like a dog and chatting nonstop. And when you don’t do exactly as she wants she’ll let you know she’s very displeased with you until you give in, honestly she’s a cat in a chickens body. She’s an incredibly sweet girl and I’m sure if I allowed her to she would still be up for napping in the crook of my neck.

And that is our lovely flock! I love all of our chickens so much, they make wonderful pets tbh. We plan on rescuing chickens in the future rather than raising them as we don’t eat eggs as much as we used to. Lots of sweet chickens need homes and I’d love to give them a forever home in their last years.

Have you ever gotten this happy dance on camera? :susPepe:
Sadly no, but I can try. It’s usually pretty random whenever they do it but I shall be extra observant :rjbow:
