Of all the known vertebrae on the planet, only one is known to have clear blood as an adult: the icefish. Icefish have blood that is completely lacking in hemoglobin and myoglobin. Icefish live in very cold waters, in portions of the Southern Ocean (which surrounds Antarctica). These waters are comparatively rich in oxygen, which when paired with anatomical changes like increased heart size, lack of scales, and faster heart pumping rate allows the icefish to receive enough oxygen. However, it’s unclear as to whether the clear blood is considered an advantageous adaptation or a disadvantage, with some pointing to benefits such as less viscous blood and less of a need to spend excess iron (a hard to get nutrient), while others point to the other necessity anatomical changes and the necessity for blood to be pumped at a higher rate.
