Mnet evil editing the Chinese trainees already wbk (aka the Krystian Kamden situation) (1 Viewer)

Soooooo it's not a surprise and I'm not going to pretend I didn't think it was going to happen

Context from what I know: The group is mostly Chinese along with Kamden who cannot speak Chinese. They are mostly speaking in Chinese since some of them can't speak English at all and Krystian is translating Kamden's words for the non English speakers. Kamden (maybe rightfully) felt upset that he couldn't communicate properly with the other members due to the language barrier.

However, this is still Mnet's fault OFC because there is naturally might be a problem with any team that is full of global trainees that cannot speak each others languages. To emphasize the fact that Krystian is being "rude" by translating to the other Chinese trainees feels wrong to me because while I can completely understand Kamden being upset by not being able to communicate with the other members, I can't understand is why they're trying to show Krystian in a bad light

Krystian can be in the wrong simply because he should've waited until Kamden finished talking but it wasn't that Krystian is talking over him at all or trying to be a "leader" instead of Kamden. Painting him in a light that he is simply being 100% disrespectful and just talking in Chinese to the others is misleading

Also if you see the positioning of Kamden's microphone and sticker in the tweet, we can't be for sure that this is even the same interview that is being used so we literally don't know how far apart these interviews are

This is a visual showing that Ricky, Krystian, Brian, Shuaibo, Jianyu, and Junlan all speak Chinese. Ricky Krystian Kamden and Brian can speak English, but Shuaibo, Jianyu and Junlan cannot speak English. Therefore it would make sense to conduct the majority of the discussion in Chinese and translate for Kamden.

Anyway this is just my two cents based on what info I have but I don't want anyone watching the show to fall for MNET evil editing the global trainees without trying to understand more about what's going on. I can understand and sympathize with Kamden but I am not going to villainize Krystian for something like this unless we get more context

From what I remember hearing about girls planet, mnet was not helpful to foreign trainees struggling with the language barrier that much. They wouldn’t provide translators when asked, one chinese trainee asked to be provided a dictionary to help her communicate better and was refused, trainees sometimes had to try to learn each others languages to properly communicate, etc. I think all these factors together definitely create a more stressful environment and is asking for misunderstandings to happen.

and mnet 100% wants that. They want trainees to struggle to understand each ofher to create conflict and even if the conflict is very minor, they will dramatize it to make it worse than it is and remove context to create a really negative impression. I think in regards to this situation here, they are repeating very similar tactics to get similar negative results.

is it surprising? Not @ all. We know how mnet is but the evil editing severally affected contestants like cai bing in gp999. She went from a top contestant to dropping down many places in ranking. I am hoping that mnet’s bullshit doesn’t have as strong of an impact this time around.

Yeah if you're not evil edited, you're basically given nothing in screentime. Like there's a handful of trainees who had pretty good stages in the beginning, but were given nothing in screentime or weren't really focused on. Like, mnet's bias to who they want in these groups in very real, and I don't you'll really get a clear perspective unless you take the time to watch all these stages yourself online.

Which like, most casual viewers aren't going to do that frankly and might not be aware of mnet's past and controversies to think much of the editing. That really sucks....

Like there's a handful of trainees who had pretty good stages in the beginning, but were given nothing in screentime or weren't really focused on. Like, mnet's bias to who they want in these groups in very real, and I don't you'll really get a clear perspective unless you take the time to watch all these stages yourself online.

It's hard because I want to support the trainees in the shows, I'm watching this show for Keita and up10tion etc initially. But I hate watching mnet shows so it's like a real battle between wanting to vote for and support the people in it and hating mnet like everyone else
Therefore I also take my voting seriously and I watch a lot of the content so I know I'm being fair to who I think I should vote for while also hating it for supporting mnet

I agree with to an extent, but there was not any communication with Kamden about what the role distributions. If 6/7 spoke Chinese and they wanted to help establish the roles in Chinese then that is fine, but it seems like they never told that plan to Kamden or did not realise how that could look if they did not. They are going to edit how they edit, but let's not pretend that they did not put themselves into a position to be evil edited. Kamden was clearly frustrated at the lack of communication with him but we've only seen 1 scene from that clip.

Also, I do not think it was all of the trainees that were doing this but Krystian immediately switching to Chinese when Kamden wanted to divide the roles was a dick move because 4/7 can speak English and doing their segments in English or Korean would've made more sense than doing it entirely in Chinese. If they wanted to do it in Chinese then there was no reason to make Kamden the leader of the group and it should've been Ricky or Krystian. I'm interested to see what happens in the next episode to see if that was an isolated incident or not.

My broader point is that Krystian and Ricky set themselves up to be the bullies in this (the other chinese members less so from the looks of it) and put Kamden in an easy position to look like a victim.

Honestly my guess is that if the languages were reversed (so 6 Korean speaking members with one foreign language speaking member) then a lot of people would have no issue with it anymore. I can’t prove that obviously, it’s just my guess.

I'm not in favour of cancelling them because like you said we don't have the context and it is heavily edited and I think cancelling people is just pointless. I'm curious to see how their practices go in the next episode though.
