Since I realize that some of you aren't aware of some of the biggest events in the past years (I'm watching you @Jimin) I thought on making a little recap
Ladie's Code car accident
On September 3, 2014 at around 1:30AM (KST), the group was involved in a serious car accident while returning to Seoul after attending the recording of KBS "Open Concert" at DGIST (and thus completing promotions for "Kiss Kiss"). The group's manager, Mr. Park, was driving the van and had been speeding, driving 137 km/h (85 mph) in a 100 km/h (62 mph) zone for a distance of 30 km (19 mi). Rainy conditions made the road slippery, which caused Park to suddenly lose control of the vehicle, causing the group's van to hydroplane and skid several times before crashing into a protective wall in the vicinity of the Singal Junction on Yeongdong Expressway.
EunB was declared dead on arrival by the time the paramedics reached Sungbin Medical Center, while the remaining six passengers were rushed to various hospitals. Sojung and RiSe, who suffered the most serious injuries, were taken to the Catholic University of Korea St. Vincent's Hospital in Suwon, listed under critical condition. RiSe's condition quickly deteriorated and she was moved to Ajou University Hospital, where she eventually died four days later on September 7, 2014, at 10:10AM (KST)
Kim Hyun Joong assault charges
In August 2014, Kim's girlfriend, identified only by her surname Choi, filed assault charges against Kim, claiming that he repeatedly beat her, causing bruises and broken ribs.Kim denied the charges, saying he had injured Choi only once and that it was an accident that occurred while he was practicing martial arts.Choi dropped some of the charges against Kim in September after he apologized to her. However, Kim was later fined 5 million KRW for injuring Choi, with prosecutors in the case saying, "While Kim claimed that he had no intention of hurting her, the damage from the attack was clear."
(This one is extremely long so for more information just google it lol)
GLAM scandal
In August 2014, scandal-prone Lee Byung Hun reported a blackmail attempt to the police against two idols – GLAM‘s Dahee and model Lee Ji Yeon. The women claimed to have a video of Lee Byung Hun making lewd comments to them while drinking together. They had threatened to share it unless he paid $5 million. Lee Ji Yeon was sentenced to one year and two months in prison, and Dahee to one year in prison. Later they appealed the result. Lee Byung Hun asked the two be pardoned, so they received reduced sentences.
Yoochun accused of rape
You may remember Yoochun from dramas like Sungkwakan Scandal and Rooftop Prince, or as a member of hugely popular JYJ – but his stellar image was tainted after he was accused of sexual assault by five different women in 2016. The first woman to accuse him said he had taken her into a bathroom stall in an adult entertainment establishment and raped her. Subsequent accusers came forward claiming Yoochun had raped them all in the bathroom of bars, beginning as far back as 2014, and with each report his reputation plummeted. Yoochun was cleared of all charges in July 2016 due to lack of evidence, but the damage had been done – he was perceived as someone who frequented seedy establishments and solicited sex. The original accuser was later found guilty of extortion, when it was revealed she had requested approximately $800,000 from Yoochun’s agency, C-JeS Entertainment.
Baek Ji-young's sex tape
Baek Ji-young is best known for two things: her booming ballads and her scandalous sex tape. In 2001, the solo singer's career was thrown into turmoil when footage of her having sex with her manager at the time was posted online—by none other than the manager himself. According to The Korea Times, Kim Seok-jin fled to the States after releasing the graphic video, where he was later arrested for having sex with a minor. He was deported to face charges in South Korea in 2008, but Baek Ji-young's reputation was already in tatters by this point.
The singer revealed that at one stage it became so dangerous to hold fan meetings that she had to organize events at secret locations in South Korea's mountainous regions. "I remember the mountain fan meeting," she recalled during her appearance on talk show Star Gazing (via Koogle). "At the time, I really wanted to do the fan meeting because I couldn't see my fans any other way. I couldn't hold the meeting openly because I didn't want other people to find out that the fans were my fans. I was worried that they would be criticized because of me."
Seungri's Japanese sex scandal
He may not be the most famous member of five-piece K-pop sensation Big Bang (that title undoubtedly belongs to rapper, singer and fashion icon G-Dragon), but Seungri is certainly well-known when it comes to scandal. In 2012, photos of him asleep in bed were sold to a tabloid by a Japanese fan who claimed to have had a one night stand with the idol. According to KpopStarz, the singer's name was "tarnished" after this, and not just with fans—even his own bandmates reportedly scolded him for his "careless behaviour."
Seungri later apologized for the incident, revealing that he was "scared and shocked" when the drama unfolded. "It was the first time in history that an idol became the center of a scandal like that," he said during his appearance on South Korean TV show Incarnation (via AllKpop). "The tabloid I was published in is very famous—they don't even bother to talk about anyone who isn't famous. It was my first scandal, but it was so big."
Kangin's drunk hit and run
Super Junior's Kangin wasn't a name you'd associate with scandal back when the all-boy group (commonly referred to as SuJu or simply SJ) debuted in 2005, but over the last few years he's started to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. In 2016 he was involved in a hit and run in Seoul's trendy Gangnam district, reportedly plowing into a streetlight right in front of a convenience store. According to Koreaboo, the idol was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and he fled the scene out of fear of being arrested.
"It is true that Kangin had a DUI accident," his management company SM Entertainment later confirmed (via Soompi). "Kangin contacted the police regarding the accident and received an investigation at the arranged time. Kangin is deeply regretful of his actions and will cease all entertainment-related schedules to take some time to self-reflect." SM (who had only recently created a new label to deal with Super Junior exclusively) had to apologize for Kangin's behavior again the following year after he reportedly assaulted his girlfriend in a bar.
"We're deeply sorry for causing trouble," a statement from Label SJ said. "Kangin had a quarrel with a friend at a bar, which caused a misunderstanding that ended up with a police dispatch to the scene. Once again, we're very sorry that he caused trouble while having time for self-reflection." According to The Korea Times, the woman in question chose not to press charges.
Park Bom's Drug Scandal
Park Bom's career sadly took a huge hit after her drug scandal back in 2014. The singer was accused of smuggling the drug amphetamines from the United States into South Korea by mail. Not too clever.
It was revealed that due to a traumatic experience involving the death of a teammate from her soccer team, Park Bom had experienced an internal, dark slump and suffered from trauma and deep depression. Her doctor in the U.S.A prescribed these drugs to aid her with her issues. YG Entertainment even released a full official statement regarding the difficult matter. However, that didn't stop Korean fans from hating on her - even when she graced the stage with her fellow members during the MAMA Awards.
Jonghyun's death
In December 2017, Jonghyun rented an apartment in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam District in southeastern Seoul for two days. He checked in at 12:00 PM KST on December 18, 2017. Later that day, at 4:42 PM, Jonghyun's older sister, Kim So-dam, made an initial call to emergency responders, reporting that she believed he intended to commit suicide, because he had sent her a number of messages on KakaoTalk with words such as "last goodbye" and "say I did well".He was last seen at a convenience store next to his apartment.
Jonghyun was found unconscious in his apartment by the police and rescue workers at around 6:10 PM.He was immediately brought to Konkuk University Hospital in a state of cardiac arrest. He received emergency CPR treatment. However, he failed to regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital at around 6:32 PM, aged 27.Investigators believe he died from inhaling either toxic fumes or smoke, as they discovered coal briquettes burnt on a frying pan upon arriving at the apartment. The police stated that, at the request of Jonghyun's family, a post-mortem would not be carried out, and they declared his death a possible suicide.
Leeteuk's fathers murder-suicide and death of grandparents in 2014
Leeteuk's grandparents and father that was caretaker of the grandparents were found dead 6th January in 2014. After police investigation it was revealed that his father had killed his grandparents and then committed suicide. Reason said to be that the father was middle of debt and couldn't afford taking care of the three. Leeteuk at the time was middle of his military service and despite being greatly shaken by the events even in extend of forming depression managed to finish his service and return to Super Junior. Moreover what contributed to his depression was his fathers spiteful last message to him as well as some netizens were blaming Leeteuk of the happening, but truthfully he and his father never had good relationship. After the tragedy Leeteuk has been paying of his father debts and tackling lot of work as leader of Super Junior, but it's still likely he has some lingering mental issues over this ordeal. Leeteuk reveals his father’s last words, that drove him into depression
T.O.P use of marihuana, demotion of military police and alleged suicide attempt by overdose of benzos in 2017
This scandal includes lot of stuff, but it started after it was revealed to media and public that T.O.P had been dating trainee Han Seo Hee and smoked mariahuana with her. Han Seo Hee was caught by police of breaking her probation and she revealed she had used drug with T.O.P. Big bang member was middle of his military service in military police at the time and was tested positive. Middle of court process and media attention that the case was gaining, T.O.P allegedly attempted suicide (not confirmed, speculation) by overdosing on benzos- form of anxiety/depression medicine that doctor had prescripted to him. He was brought to intensive care and regained consciousness after being three days in critical condition to relief of family and many fans. T.O.P pleaded guilty of marihuana use and received 10 months suspensed jail sentence (in reality this is probation period from what I understand and no actual jail time). He was also removed from police military unit he was serving in, seemed unfit to start military service again and put into civil service instead. Member of Big Bang lost publics trust over the ordeal and has been keeping low profile ever since. Most of information of him ever since is pictures of fans taken of him while he's working as civil servant.
Rapper Iron arrested for violently beating his girlfriend and then stabbing himself
According to the Seoul Central Police, Iron beat his girlfriend because she wasn't listening to him, causing fractures. Prosecutors said last September, while Iron and girlfriend 'A' were having sex, 'A' refused Iron's demands. He beat her face with his fists in anger.
About fifteen days afterward, 'A' decided to break up with Iron. He then choked and beat her, causing injuries and fracturing her left pinky. He then threatened her by stabbing himself with a kitchen tool and then telling her that if she called the police, he would tell them she stabbed him.
“[Iron] is denying the charges, but it’s been proven that he hit the victim in the face with his fist on September 2016. It’s hard to confirm his statement that the victim asked him to hit her. We will not be accepting [Iron’s] claim. He is guilty of all charges.”
