I just learned how morbid some nursery rhymes are. Some refer to murder, some to infidelity, some to racism… why were we taught these as children?? Thats so messed up wtf ​

Because many old nursery rhymes, just like fairy tales, were meant to teach children a lesson and were not supposed to be happy or comforting

Tbh I had thought they had wrapped up these situations into nursery rhymes to get a running head start on telling kids not to do that kinda stuff.

My mom always told us to never sing some, like London Bridge but when we were younger we didn’t realize what it was referring to and sung it anyways.
