I don’t understand how someone could possibly do this to their baby

16 month old baby Jailyn was abandoned by her own mother. Her mother (if you can even call her that) left on a two week vacation and did not bring the baby with her. Jailyn cried out for her mother and sadly passed away on the 11th day. Neighbours reported they had heard her crying out for her mother.

How could someone be so heartless? ​

I heard about that news but I wasn't sad just angry!!!

one of my pet peeves I guess is when parents neglect their children - not just abandonment like above but fail to properly raise and teach their children manners and life skills and education etc etc

I've said that when my first child was born (I was 33) my father said to me "now you are an adult"
why? cos that child is innocent and relies on me to do everything - feed him, cloth him, bath him, play with hiim, teach him etc etc
it is that fundamental obligation of a parent that takes precedence over everything else in the world (or at least it should)

Exactly, children rely on their families for basically everything. They require a secure attachment with a caregiver. They need to know that someone supports them and is there for them. From birth, the baby learns what behaviours get a response (and which ones don’t).

indeed and thus when I read about neglect it just makes me angry
and it's not just neglect I guess in the legal sense of the word but so many friends or acquaintances of my wife talk about how their husbands don't spend time with their children or don't play with them and I'm like why the F did you even be a father in the first place??

I honestly don’t understand how someone could agree to become a parent and then willingly not spend time with their child. I was speaking with a fathering support worker for my placement for my program and I am so surprised how many resources there are for mothers but not for fathers here.

I believe that parents should both bring to the table as much as they possibly can. This case in the OP just baffles me. Like how can she just abandon her child like that?

I think in some states, yes. Not sure about Ohio, where this incident occurred. I am Canadian though so I understand that judicial system better.
