The theory we have is that when we passed through a tiny town and got gas, google maps saw we were stopped and unmoving and therefore decided we were in a huge traffic jam (there was no one else in sight, so for all we know there was no one else driving in the area, causing the only data to be ours). We drove around on the detour google maps suggested, just to see that when we got out there was no car or traffic jam of any kind, let alone the long af one google maps claims it saw.
