With all of the absolute bangers that came out the past year, with great debuts, great comebacks, NewJeans popping up out of nowhere, Le Sserafim winning people’s hearts, the solo adventures of past IZ*ONE members, Seulgi going solo… it goes on and on and on.
This was a really tough call. I liked most songs to come out in 2022, but one of the first songs that I thought to myself “this is a contender” was without a doubt…

SOTY: PIXY - Villain
Maybe this is a surprise to a lot of people considering the amount of good songs recently, but Villain is undeniably my favorite song of the year. Its executed beautifully, its original, the verses mirror the chorus which I love, the concept is great, MV is great, and to do this without the presence of the group’s main vocalist in Ella is just impressive. Can’t praise this song enough.
Runner Ups
Le Sserafim - Antifragile
This was on absolute repeat when it came out. It has a latino inspired beat, its catchy, fast paced, loved the different verses in it, chorus is very catchy, they killed the dance performance. It’s a great song. The ONLY things holding it back in my opinion, is the lack of a dance break (personal preference), and the finale could be a little stronger.
NewJeans - Hype Boy
Another song on constant repeat. It blew up tremendously, dance went viral, everyone in the world was vibing to this song including other idols. This group skyrocketed in a moment’s notice and Hype Boy to me is their best song. So smooth and laidback, its fun, its fun to listen to, fun to sing to, it’s ear wormy. Everything is spot on. Only reason its not #1 is because Villain was a bit more original and hit a bit harder.
IVE - Love Dive
Love Dive is good but in different ways. Instead of it being a bass boosted ‘banger’, its more of a super dreamy, super chill song. Love Dive can be listened to anywhere because its very easy on the ears thanks to the fantastic production and that ‘ooo ooo’ in the background. The chorus at this point is quite iconic and I’m sure everyone can pick it out from a lineup. There’s even a short dance break to freshen things up. It’s not #1 solely because its a bit slower for my tastes.
Billlie - RING Ma Bell
Guys, please don’t sleep on Billlie. They’re being overshadowed by a lot of the other new groups but Ring Ma Bell is such a powerhouse of a song. Loud and proud, the members killed it, they’ve embodied the rebel rock sound. It’s a song you put on full blast and start throwing things around and it has one of my fave dance performances of 2022. Its only here due to its niche sound and because Villain is still a bit better.
Eunbi - Glitch
I never saw this coming and I’m probably not the only one but, Kwon Eunbi has put out some of the best songs of 2022 in her short solo lifespan. Glitch is so original, its done in a fresh way, and its very ‘Eunbi’ meaning nothing else sounds like this. You can’t help but vibe to this song.
Taeyeon - INVU
This was very close to being #1. Very strong vocal performance from Taeyeon as to be expected, sounds so heavenly and pleasant to the ears, and the way the chorus drops is just otherworldly. Its my favorite song that I’ve listened to from her and its now up here with one of the best songs of the year.
