After that thread of mine where I expressed my dislike towards Miroh, I decided to do an album overview to try and save the grace of Stray Kids.
Entrance does a good job of setting the mood for the album and gives a good preview. Percussion was a nice touch, but French was completely out of place. The rhythm matches Miroh, the repetitiveness matches Miroh as well. I got tired of the intro after 30 seconds, and I had 30 seconds to go. Not impressed. 4 out of 10.
The biggest problem people have with MIROH is that it's noisy. But to me that's okay. I like EDM and noisy. Guitar riffs are brilliant and I am glad that they run throughout entire song. The verses are well composed, I like the build-up and introduction of additional elements throughout. However, the woah oah repetition until that second rap instance is completely unnecessary. I got sick of it even when it repeated stand-alone, even before it served as bg for the rap. It literally destroys the entire song. The first rapper couldn't even get his standalone section, it had to be followed with woah oah higher thingy. The chorus has a great instrumental but terrible vocal composition. NOT vocal delivery, I know Stray Kids can sing, I just didn't like how composer decided that chorus should be sung. It just made no sense. It should have followed the melody (similar to what Apink does in Eung Eung, where they follow the synth). All in all, a solid 5 out of 10.
I really liked Victory Song. It really has that signature "Stray Kids in da house" signature written all over it. Especially the 3RACHA boys. Reminds me a bit of NCT U's 7th Sense, right before the chorus. But the chorus of this song is really something to talk about. It's basically oriental instrumental meets EDM with additional woah oah... However, unlike with MIROH, it works here. Love the "listen" "to this" breaks, it really emphasize the chorus. This is a party bop. With one too many woah oahs. 8 out of 10.
Never really heard any hip-hop by Stray Kids that attached to me but Maze of Memories really takes the cake. 3RACHA really know how to rap. The rock twist was magnificent. This song reminded me of School Boy trilogy of BTS. It sounds like something from ORUL2. However, different instances of the song really do make it a supreme. It's hip-hop, with the premise of rock and even metal during that switch. Honestly, it could be a cypher track for BTS. 8 out of 10.
I fell in love with Boxer's melody as soon as the song started. Wasn't really impressed with the rest. The intense rap at the very beginning was brilliant, and the song doesn't slow down, ever. Chorus was slightly disappointing as it didn't really have a melody, but rather a sample. However the following verses are really good, and while it's a hip-hop influenced track, there are some vocals here and there, giving it SK signature. The chorus is a huge disappointment, though. 7 out of 10.
Eerie atmosphere of Chronosaurus really makes you feel stuff. I loved it so much, then the chorus started and I heard District 9 in it, except that the chorus was not hitting as hard as District 9. Background eerie loop of xylophone is brilliant though. Can't help but feel this is a filler song. 6 out of 10.
19 was a perfect way to close this album. I am a fan of slow hip-hop baby-making RnB. This is my favourite track on this album. 9 out of 10.
All in all, the album does make a whole piece, given that there is connection between songs and there's not too much straying (pun intended) away from the main sound. I don't think it's an improvement from I AM series, but they still have plenty of time.
TOTAL: 6.71 OUT OF 10
