I finally succeeded in reading for leisure how I used to, and read almost thirteen books this year.

A summary of what I read:

Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling (7 books)
There were some things I could've done without in the books, but I'm now a fan of the Wizarding World. 7/10

Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter 'H'.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

The Hate U Give - Angie Thomas
Eye-opening. A glimpse into direct police brutality and how it affects the people closest to the victim, and then everyone else. 7.5/10

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil's name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr. But what Starr does-or does not-say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

Firebird Trilogy - Claudia Gray (3 books)
I've never read sci-fi, but the summary mentioned Orphan Black. I wasn't disappointed - it was interesting to see how the main character's reality and relationships with friends and family were different in other dimensions. She (not specifically her, but the her in that particular dimension) actually becomes the villain at the end of the second book. I will probably read more sci-fi after this. 8.5/10

The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks - Shauna Robinson
Didn't want to put it down. The main character is funny and relatable as she tries to find her purpose. And it's a book about... books. 8/10
