NOW HOLD THE PHONE - if you are watching or planning to watch You Are the Apple of my Eye with Dahyun, this does spoil the ending; read at your own risk!

I started watching for the romcom aspect, and trust me when I say it's a really good movie with phenomenal AND I MEAN PHENOMENAL acting from Dahyun, but it's really not. It's a tragedy where Sunah ends up marrying another guy besides Jinwoo. This is NOT how romcoms are supposed to turn out - the female lead ALWAYS ends up with the male lead! Now, excuse me while I go write an alternate ending for it.

i've read up about the film so i know about the ending, and yeah it is sad. but the taiwanese film this movie is based on is basically an autobiographical account of the (taiwanese) director with names changed. he didn't end up with the girl in real life either so i guess that's how the movie ended up too. sad, i know, but that's why things are the way they are. and hence i'd call it more coming-of-age than romcom maybe idk
