My teacher is turning into a litmus test (2 Viewers)

We just got a new teacher to teach English and Lit for the seniors in my school. For story reasons ill call her Miss Light. Ms L was the teacher I was assigned and most of us were assigned for our senior English credit. I have her 2nd period so I see her basically right in the morning. We have a small group of teachers for each subject so if a student takes lit or is on that hallway in the morning theyve seen her. Ms Light, though its not important to her position much very obviously presents to other students as a transgender woman and I actually knew who she was the minute I got her in my schedule this year because last year she was a substitute for my other teacher one day and I had seen her write her name on a pass to leave class so I recognized her when she becam a permanent teacher now. I treat her like a normal person and even if I need to identify her to another person I'll at most say "the white lady on the first floor that teaches english, the first door when you walk in" but im like that with everybody. I must've underestimated how genuinely weird and bigoted the south can get because mere weeks into the year people are being so weird to her. When she's not around or has to briefly leave the class they'll loudly exclaimed "i can't stand HIM" and make unnecessary over emphasis on saying him as though being slightly annoyed strips her of a right to identity. Ive wanted to stand up for her before but its not that I dont want to but given were a room of teens and shes a grown woman I have the feeling that she knows on the inside she has no magic switch to stop this madness entirely and unfortunately to pursue her job just deals with it. Even when shes written people up for poor behavior they come back later and do the same shit so if the actual head of authority holds no real power over their conduct what can I do aside from further alienate myself as a fellow member of the community by trying to be a walking billboard. It honestly annoys me mostly because it's disruptive to a genuinely crucial class and holds up time we can use to do work. Im not expecting GA to change overnight but it would be great if they'd shut up and quit trying to make it her whole personality when she never mentions it. I never had issues with her except brief one sided upset because she kept forgetting my preferred name but we're over that and that never compelled me to disrespect her the same at all. It's really showing me how many people I've seen who I used to see as neutral who I now can onoy view in a negative light because of how they treat her. I can literally read a person based on how they talk about Ms Light even if they dont explicitly misunderstood her because they always sound like they want to or might even insert thing or person into the sentence for no good reason. I wish they'd all just skip English and fail the year if they hate her so bad
