PassCode's Tokyo-Nippon Budokan performance "PassCode NIPPON BUDOKAN 2022" held on February 12 will be broadcast and distributed exclusively on WOWOW on March 27 (Sun).
PassCode announced that it would hold a performance at Nippon Budokan during a live performance at Shinkiba STUDIO COAST in Tokyo in January 2020, before the Corona disaster. The audience cheered loudly and excitedly thought about the bright future of the group. After that, due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, they were forced to postpone the Budokan performance, but they held a live tour "" STRIVE "for BUDOKAN Tour 2021" for the Budokan performance scheduled for February 2022. hold. I visited live houses all over the country. Meanwhile, in August 2021, Yuna Imada, a member of the group, "retired" due to poor physical condition. PassCode welcomed Emily Arima as a new member in the same month and chose to continue the tour.
In Music Natalie, we interviewed PassCode who stood on the stage of Nippon Budokan after many twists and turns. They talked about their frank impressions after the concert, what they felt during the performance, and their thoughts on the future while looking back on their past steps.

Live house Budokan
──First of all, thank you for your hard work at the Nippon Budokan performance on February 12. Please tell us your frank impressions after the big stage (see: PassCode, the same appearance as usual on the big stage called Nippon Budokan ).
Nao Minami It was purely fun. She said, "I want to do a live concert again soon." The actual performance was like standing on the stage of a large live house, but I think it was a "home feeling" because the customers liked PassCode properly. I was happy to be able to stand on the stage of the Budokan with a sense of home in the usual way, in a good way, while doing things that are different from other live performances such as flashy productions.

Kaede Takashima: I was very happy that many people gathered even though it was a difficult time. There are things I have accumulated so far, and I think I was able to express the usual PassCode in a good way. We are looking forward to PassCode in the future, and we would like to visit live houses nationwide as soon as possible.
Hinako Ogami: It was on the stage of Shinkiba STUDIO COAST in January, two years ago, that I declared that I would perform a live concert at the Budokan. After that, I was worried because the infection had spread again since the beginning of this year, but I was relieved to finish the Budokan performance safely. And the day after the performance was over, I missed the live concert (laughs). When I looked into SNS, after this live, the audience was particularly immersed in the lingering sound, and they wrote a lot of impressions. When I saw that kind of thing, I felt loneliness and the feeling that "Oh, it's over!" I've been working towards the Budokan for a long time, so I'd like to have a live concert as soon as possible to counteract the loneliness (laughs). I couldn't imagine the scene seen from the stage of the Budokan until the actual performance, but when I stood up, it seemed to be a continuation of the live performance that had been done until then. While playing live, I thought, "PassCode, maybe I can go even more," so I'm looking forward to it even more.
Emily Arima: I stood on the stage of the Budokan six months after joining. I've been practicing a lot during the last six months, doing live performances, and looking back, it was hard. But the live performance at Budokan was so much fun that I felt "I want to do more!".
PassCode
I've been doing it, so I have now
──You said that you set up the Budokan in the same way as a live house, but I wonder if it was the feeling you got from the Budokan performances and the rush toward the future with the determination and conviction.
Minami: Three or four years ago, when I saw other artists performing live in a big venue, I couldn't imagine ourselves standing there. I think there was a feeling that "we are not artists who do it in such a place". But two years ago, we promised our fans that we would play live at Nippon Budokan in Shinkiba. When I saw everyone singing "It's you" that I performed at that time, I thought, "I should be able to take this song to a wider place." At the concerts after the Corona sword, the consciousness of being "seen" became very strong. I used to think "I want to have a live concert with my fans", but my consciousness changed after the Corona disaster, and thanks to the fact that I have created a different live concert with my fans, my own I feel new possibilities. Before, even when I was talking to the staff, I was often told that "PassCode is not an artist to sit down and watch", and I was disappointed to hear that. Certainly there is a part that I was particular about, but I thought, "If you sit down and watch, you can't enjoy our live performance?" However, due to the influence of Corona, the audience couldn't speak out, and because the things they could do on the floor were limited, we could inevitably aim for a live that could be enjoyed just by watching the stage, and in the last two years we have had more discussions with the members. As a group called PassCode, it was a period when my consciousness changed in various ways in terms of performance.
Emily Arima
Minami Nao
──Ms. Arima joined PassCode in the midst of that change.
Before Minami , they might have thought, "It's okay if you can use Emily's shout as a weapon." However, since PassCode after the Corona sword was also refining dance as one of our strengths, I think it was difficult because there were so many requests for dance as well as shout.
Both the members and the choreographer helped me a lot in terms of dance. It feels great to have a sense of responsibility to respond to that ...
Minami / Takashima / Ogami ? (Lol)
Arima : I didn't feel like "Wow!" Under the pressure, but I felt happy because I was enthusiastic. …… It was nice (laughs).
Minami : Even though I did such a hard job, I couldn't express it as "comfortable" (laughs).
Arima : It wasn't that it felt good to have a hard time, but it was nice to expect it (laughs).
──PassCode has become an artist who stands in the Budokan now, but I think that people who know the early days have made a leap to the point where they think, "Well, this is the end."
Takashima: If you compare Emily's motivation with me when I first entered PassCode, it's 180 degrees different (laughs). Looking back, eight years before I joined, all the members were still kids, and before the passion for PassCode, it was just a group of people doing fun things. Emily has been honing her performance right after joining, so I have a strong feeling of gratitude.
Ogami : Certainly, in the old days, everyone was a child, and it felt like a club activity.
Minami: When I started working on PassCode, I never thought that this would be my job. It's like what you do before you graduate from high school, go to college, and get a job. There are only a handful of people who can work in music, and I never imagined they could be that kind of person. However, as I continue to do what I like, more and more people like the activity. I'm so happy now that I'm able to work like this, and I think every time I play a concert.
Hinako Ogami
Kaede Takashima
Ogami: Yeah. When I joined, I was still a high school student, and my dream was to sing and live. But I couldn't imagine working with PassCode all the time, so I thought I would continue while attending college. After the major debut was decided, my consciousness changed, and I started thinking, "This must be done seriously, it will be left behind."
Minami: The more you continue to work, the more you may not understand. If the song is good, it won't sell, and if the visuals are good, it won't work. Why are we being supported by so many people and continuing to do what we want to do? I don't think it's about luck or luck, and I'm happy. If I could say one thing, it would be "I have now because I have continued". I came all the way without knowing the answer to what I did, but I think it will continue to be the same.
Powerful production unique to Budokan
──I would like you to look back on the production side of the Budokan performance. First of all, it was a great impact from the opening member appearance scene.
Minami: No way, everyone wouldn't expect the LED screen to split up and down and the members to come out between them (laughs). After that, a lot of fireballs were blowing out and it was hot. It's basically cold in the Budokan in winter, but the fireball warmed my body (laughs).
Ogami: "Anything New" and "Ray" were attended by 10 strings. The strings corps also appeared from between the screens, so I think it had an impact.
State of "PassCode NIPPON BUDOKAN 2022". (Photo by Shingo Tamai)
Minami: At the Budokan performance, we distributed "Synchronizing", in which LEDs illuminate according to the song, to the customers. Normally, PassCode live shows do not incorporate psyllium or penlights, so it was a special production only for the Budokan. I was aiming for a live that I could enjoy just by watching the stage because the customers couldn't make a voice because of the corona, but since I had them come to the live, each customer said, "The meaning of being in that place is. I want you to feel that there is. " Thinking about how customers can enjoy the concert with a sense of unity, this time I came up with a method of using a "synchro ring" that can be worn on the wrist, so I proposed it. Then it was very beautiful.
Minami Nao
Ogami was so beautiful!
Minami: There is something that comes to that light, so to speak, it feels like the soul is illuminated. The light of the fist that the customer strongly raised reached the stage, and it filled the Budokan. "Synchronizing" was something I couldn't think of without Corona, so there are many things I can't do, but I felt that there are things I can do at such times. The best thing is that we were able to prepare a production as if the people at the venue were singing in "It's you".
──It seems that the singing voice of the fans recruited in advance was used for the singing long part.
Minami: There were many people who couldn't come to the Budokan because of the situation. My parents were really looking forward to it, but they couldn't come. I wanted to leave some memories for those who couldn't come to the venue, so I took the method of recruiting singing voices in advance. Therefore, the singing voices of everyone recruited for "It's you" are for those who are at the venue, and also for those who could not come to the venue to enjoy the Budokan. There are so many voices from people, so I'd be happy if you could check it out in the live video.
──Do you often look back at your live footage?
Takashima: I often watch it. All the members watch the live video for recording taken at a fixed point many times.
Minami : I immediately saw the raw data of the video that was being played on the screen of the Budokan this time as well. However, it was the first time for me to look back at the video that everyone was watching at the venue, and there was a new discovery that "the other members have such faces during the live performance." I'm looking forward to the broadcast because I think that the video broadcast by WOWOW will be edited properly and it will be easier to watch. I love our videos (laughs).
──PassCode has released several live video works so far, but do you ever see the performance objectively in the video and notice their charm?
Minami: You may feel the growth of the members. As I'm getting older, I say, "I'm a little more sexy than I used to be" (laughs). I think it's good that the faces of people on the stage are gradually coming up.
Ogami : In the old days, it felt like children were doing their best. Even with the performance of the same song, I am impressed when I notice that the way of singing has changed.
Hinako Ogami
──I see. At the Budokan performance, there were many things that I thought were amazing other than directing, and I felt that the first major debut song "MISS UNLIMITED" was exciting at once, but you didn't do this song for a while, right?
Minami: I haven't done it since about March last year. Until then, it was a classic song that I would play live every time, and I felt that the members and fans were accustomed to "MISS UNLIMITED", so I brought it to the first song of the Budokan without doing it for a year.
──It seems that the set list was devised by Ms. Minami. What kind of image did you think of from the first song to the end?
PassCode "PassCode NIPPON BUDOKAN 2022" February 12, 2022 Nippon Budokan Set List
<Angkor>
Minami: First, up to the third song, I showed something like "PassCode is such a group." The first song is a major debut song, and the second song is "Toxic", a song recorded at the beginning of the 1st album of the indie era ("ALL is VANITY" announced in October 2014). I wanted to play a song that came from a long time ago at the Budokan, and I wanted to show the old PassCode. And the third song is the latest song "Freely", which was released for the first time since Emily Arima entered. With these three songs, PassCode has been continuous for a long time, and I told them that it has reached the present. In the encore, I performed "ATLAS" first, but "ATLAS" was the first song I performed at Shinkiba, where I declared that I would stand at the Budokan. I thought it was meaningful to express the connection between the past and the present in the live, such as "I was in this set list because of this meaning" and "That's why I said that." , If you like PassCode, you will notice it. Throughout the whole, I made the set list consciously so that everyone can understand that everything so far is connected and there is today. By the way, there are songs that display the lyrics on the screen, but on that day, I suddenly decided to show the lyrics because of the story that "the lyrics will come better". The production people seemed to be busy (laughs).
A future opened by the option of "continue"
── Returning to the story, I think that "It's you", which was unveiled at the end of the encore, was one of the keys to the current PassCode. In the image projected on the screen, Ms. Imada, who was "retired" in August last year, was also shown, but it does not feature Ms. Imada herself, but the path that PassCode has followed. It was a way of showing that Ms. Imada was inside. It was also moving to see her successor, Arima, singing on stage and Imada appearing on the screen behind it. Once again, wasn't it difficult to feel the time to withdraw from the members and join last year?
Ogami: When the membership changed last year, I gave up on the continuation of the group for a moment. Until then, I've been with the same members for a long time of 7 or 8 years, so I think there were many fans who thought, "Because of these four people, PassCode." I was really worried whether I should change the shape. But last year, I decided that I had to make a group that would make people think, "Thank you for continuing even if the shape changes," because the feeling of not wanting to end here wins.
Minami: I was on a tour, so to be honest, I didn't have much time to worry about. The schedule to the Budokan was all decided, and I had to decide what to do early. Fans may have thought about the system change, "It's different from what I was saying" and "Is everything up to now a lie?" At that time, we had something left to do, and we wanted to go to the point where we could be convinced. I wanted to do it to the point where I thought, "It's okay to finish with this," even if it's not a cool ending or a beautiful ending. It was a very big decision, and it was a painful situation for the fans to join a new member less than a month after Imada retired, but still believe us and come to see the concert. rice field. I also thought that I had to do a stage that would convince me to watch it, so I think Emily was really hard. The level I was looking for was inevitably very high, and I think it made Emily feel awful, but she performed well to meet the expectations of the fans.
Arima (nods)
Emily Arima
Minami : I think the performance at the Budokan on February 12th was wonderful because there were many people who believed in PassCode and wanted to walk with them. If I didn't have even one, it wouldn't have been such a live. Of course, the activities so far are also important history of us, but from now on, when the period since Emily entered and the period of activities so far are about the same, "I chose to continue PassCode at that time. I'm glad I was happy, "and I want to be a group that fans can think" I'm glad I followed PassCode, which I chose to continue. " It's been about half a year now that I've been in this system, but I'd like to spend more time and continue to the point where I don't think I've left behind. Last year's events weren't an easy swaying decision, and I want to carry everything on my back and continue.
──I'm really glad that Ms. Arima feels "it feels good to be expected" even in difficult situations.
Arima: That's right (laughs).
Minami: If not, I'm sure I'm not here (laughs). Emily is very serious about music. The reason we've been doing PassCode is because we have a feeling that we like PassCode, and because Emily had a similar feeling to metal and her own vocals, she's so far. I wondered if I had been singing. She felt that she couldn't be with her unless she was such a child, so she chose Emily just for that reason, but I'm really glad that she was, and I think her fans admitted that she wasn't wrong. I am.
I want the balance of the four people to be a "clean square"
──Here, I have a question for three people other than Ms. Minami. Ms. Minami is always lively with a hot MC and is demonstrating strong leadership. What kind of person is Nao Minami to other members?
South compliment! Compliment! (Lol)
Arima: Minami ... has a cute face.
Ogami: Ahaha.
Takashima: visual?
Minami: She said the best thing (laughs).
Takashima: It's no exaggeration to say that Minami lives by thinking only about PassCode, and she has a great love for PassCode. She is also good at expressing what she feels because she is smart, and she often expresses what she thinks "that's it!" When we are in trouble. A person who speaks for our feelings.
Kaede Takashima
Ogami : She really thinks about PassCode insanely. We also like PassCode, so we think about how we can grow the group and keep it going for a long time, but Minami can give a lot of answers. Thank you so much for your contribution!
Minami: It seems that something is being said (laughs).
Arima: Since I'm a new member, there were many things I didn't understand about performance after joining, and I had a lot of trouble, but Nao Minami was the first to notice in such cases. I think that's why PassCode has been around for so long.
Minami (in a whisper) 100 points of answers ...!
Arima (in a whisper) Thank you!
──There are still more, right? Please let us know at this opportunity.
Minami : More compliments about me (laughs).
Ogami : Always take the lead in the members. It's a position that bears the brunt, so I think it's the most often said. I think I would feel like "Why should I just have to say this among the four members?", But Minami doesn't give up and pulls the PassCode no matter what I say. I think it's really amazing.
PassCode
──Ms. Minami seems to stand out more, but it never happens. Do you say that PassCode has a great presence as a group?
Minami: If one person stands out, there is no point in doing it with PassCode. I really like the group called PassCode. I don't feel like I've done anything by myself, and I think I'm there because there are members and there is a group called PassCode. If you're not familiar with PassCode, I might think it's a position that you want to stand out, but for me, it's good if it's one factor that looks good as PassCode. I've never wanted to do it solo or just stand out, and I don't know if PassCode is over and I'll continue the music. I'm not conscious of that attitude, and I think PassCode itself is such a group. For example, shouts stand out in music, but if you say that it's a group with only shouts, that's not the case. Of course, it's a very important factor, and I'm proud that shouts are picked up in the story "Speaking of PassCode music", but there are songs and dances of Hinako and Kaede, and in addition to that, a projectile called shout, a deadly tool. Isn't there a skill? That's why I don't take one and say "this is PassCode", but I think that the combination of all four people is PassCode.
──It may be that the idol group of a genre different from the mainstream could grow up to this point because there is a solid idea that there are members to make the group look better, not to set up someone or something like that. I don't. I also thought that my love for the group was really strong.
Minami: I want to be a group that can draw uniform squares. It's not a sharp point, it's a beautiful square. For example, if you want to make a song with only shouts, you can make it, but that's why the balance of PassCode is maintained. Regarding music, there are some things that depend on Mr. Hirachi (sound producer Koji Hirachi), but we just believe in that and I think that the color of the group has been firmly established.
──Finally, do you have a message for WOWOW viewers?
Takashima: At the Budokan performance, there is a different production than usual, but the performance is done as usual in a good way, so I hope that you can see the members' feelings from their facial expressions, songs, and dances!

PassCode(passcode)
A four-member group with shout scream that stands out with a group of illusionary songs such as screamo and metalcore based on the band sound. In October 2016, it made its major debut with the single "MISS UNLIMITED". It has performed at numerous large festivals such as "SUMMER SONIC", "JOIN ALIVE", "Vans Warped Tour Japan 2018 presented by XFLAG", and "Jaiga OSAKA GIGANTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL", and is widely supported by full-scale rock fans and idol fans. Has won. In December 2020, it was announced that a performance at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo would be held in February 2022, about a year later. From February 2021, they performed a national tour "" STRIVE "for BUDOKAN Tour 2021" with their major 3rd full album "STRIVE". After the member Yuna Imada "retired" in August, it was announced that Emily Arima would join. In November, the new single "Freely / FLAVOR OF BLUE" was released for the first time in the new system, and in February 2022, a one-man live "PassCode NIPPON BUDOKAN 2022" was held at Nippon Budokan.
