NCT is renowned for its show-stopping choreography, which is heavily influenced by hip-hop but combines many elements and dance styles. It is often highly appreciated not only by fans but others in the idol community, who post their own NCT covers and closely follow the group's choreo. The overall style is strong, impactful and technical with an emphasis on hand movements, footwork and isolations, but there are definite nuances within each sub-unit.
NCT's overall style is also a reflection of the many wonderful and talented choreographers who create work for the group. Choreographers from all over the world have created NCT choreo and the group often works with many new choreographers, as well as many female choreographers.
Many of their choreographers are rooted in hip hop, have dance crews and/or run their own dance studios. In fact, some of the choreographers started as dancers with other SM artists like EXO or as assistants to existing choreographers.
I've been tracking down the choreographer info, which is sometimes harder to find than you might think, or incomplete, which I've included here and I think you'll start to get a feel for each choreographer's style. I've also included a chart so you can jump to relevant info, then will include dance practices where I can, because they give the clearest view of the work in order!
NCT typically has a main choreographer who tends to focus on the overall look and feel, as well as performances and b-sides. This person isn't always specifically defined, but if you're following along, you can figure out who it is. The title tracks usually have several choreographers - portions of each choreographer's work may combine to make the final choreo or the entire piece may be mostly choreographed by one person.
The concert tours adapt these choreo, usually working with the main choreographer and renowned choreographer and artistic director Rino Nakasone. You've seen Rino behind the scenes on the NCT concert tour videos!
It's a lot of info so bear with me while I get it all up here! FYI: I'm not a technical expert, just a casual aficionado.
