Over two dozen people who attended a concert by Stray Kids at Washington, D.C.’s National Park last year sued Live Nation, the District of Columbia, and more for their negligence during the heat wave.

The lawsuit, filed in D.C. Superior Court, accused event organizers of negligence during the concert, which took place on June 23, 2025. During the show, temperatures neared 100 degrees with a heat index of 110, and the suit claimed that not enough water and cooling resources were made available. While National Park officials previously said water bottles would be permitted, attendees said staff made them throw away bottles upon entry.

The suit was brought-on by 28 concertgoers from states like Arizona, Minnesota, and D.C., among others. They also claimed that the venue price-gouged water and long security lines prevented them from finding shade to cool-down.

According to court documents, attendees began passing out and vomiting due to the heat exposure, and six people were hospitalized due to heat-related illness. The Stray Kids even called-off their show early due to the heat.

One fan, Victoria Wisor, told ABC 7 News after the show that “I don’t know how any of us are still alive, to be honest, cause it was so hot.”

Attorney Samantha Dos Santos of Plaxen Adler Muncy, who represents the 28 concertgoers, noted in a statement to ABC 7 News that “our clients came to Nationals Park to enjoy a concert, not to fight for their safety.”

“When the situation became dire, rather than render aid, water was price-gouged and medical emergencies went unaddressed,” Santos said. “These are not the actions of organizations that take their duty of care seriously, and our clients, nearly 30 individuals from across the country, suffered real, preventable harm as a result. We intend to hold every responsible party accountable.”

The suit names Live Nation Entertainment as a defendant, alongside Events D.C., Levy GP Corporation, and the District of Columbia Government.

Some comments I saw on reddit about this concert:

I was at that concert, it almost felt like the staff was malicious towards the concert goers. I heard them refer to the attendees as “little girls” (fully grown women), and we had a friend who delivered us water bottles in line so we could hand them out to people passing out. They also delayed opening the gates by at LEAST an hour past when they said they would. I drank 2 liters of water while in line and didn’t need to use the restroom once.

Good for them!! I was at this concert and the conditions were insane. There were people passing out and being laid down in the space between the grandstand and the floor seats, it was legitimately so scary. Not to mention getting in the stadium took forever and was a complete shitshow.

As an attorney, I'm very glad to see this case going forward. What happened at that concert was massively negligent by Live Nation, and they should be held to account for it.

I very much hope this suit is successful.

It sounds like the concert was handled pretty negligently by Live Nation (aka Ticketmaster and fuck Ticketmaster), and I'm sure SKZ would never have wanted their fans to be hurt trying to see them.

Omg though this happens a lot I remember back in 2018 in Australia at a music festival they took our water bottles away and told us there was a water filter (yet water was warm) even water they were selling were warm bc it was like 40 and a lot of people got rushed to hospital I also fainted twice that day and all I had was a frozen water bottle so make it last the day but they took that from me


So this a very common thing so idk if sueing then will make any difference I do think some places should allow us to bring water or something to protect us from heat like this


Either way I think I remember stray kids were giving water to the fans themselves.

Open air concerts during summers is such a risky thing lately. It's a world wide thing at this point, that summers can be so severe it's just too much to attend an open air concert. I can only imagine for the future to try organize these concerts inside with atleast some proper cool airflow and AC. Livenation should have put atleast some cover at places that provide shade, and allow people to carry a bag with plenty of bottles of water. A lot of these concerts with Kpop acts always have these stupid rules of tiny small handbag sized bags only allowed, yet when you spend money at their popup stores it's okay to walk around with a huge poster and bag with merch...

When I saw Dreamcatcher a few years ago in July, it was indoors, but the venue had terrible air flow. The girls kept telling us to put an X with our arms overhead if anyone was overheated or needed help. No one did, thankfully, but the line after to get water was crazy. I paid $8 for a bottle and the staff helped themselves to an extra $2 tip. 🙃

I feel bad for the artists, because they obviously want their fans to have a good time, but don't control things like the venue's food and drink policy or whether it has good A/C.
