Is not fun. I do not recommend
So I realized about an hour ago that I hadn’t turned our chickens heat lamp back on and went outside to quickly do that (because it’s freezing outside) only to realize that when I collected eggs earlier in the day that I hadn’t opened up their door again so they could get into the coop. So all the chickens were outside.
It was already dark out and for anyone unaware when it gets dark and chickens get themselves cozy wherever they decide to sleep they almost become very zombie-like (hard to move, extremely stubborn and just overall difficult lol). So our chickens were like that, they were all huddled in a hard to reach area (which just makes it much more difficult) but I needed to get them back into the coop asap because :
1.There’s lots of predators where we live
2.Most of our chickens are cold hardy but they’re all used to heat lamps during cold weather and our roosters are not at all cold hardy so it wouldn’t be good to leave the boys out in freezing temperatures at all.
First thing I tried was getting one of the boys to lead the girls into the coop (because I really didn’t want to carry them all in myself)
The bad thing is that even though I had opened the wooden coop door, the automatic door to their coop was slowly closing for the night and I have zero idea how to work it, so I was literally racing against this stupid automatic door.
So thankfully Stitch (rooster) is the best boy ever and led a few hens into the coop, but the rest were not budging. I had to ask assistance from my mom because I really didn’t think I was going to be able to get them in before the door closed. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if it was just the hens that I had to carry into the coop one by one but there was still Hey Hey who is our “aggressive” rooster and I haven’t picked him up since he was like 6 months because he hates me.
Obviously if there was no other option I’d do it but I know I wouldn’t walk away without a few marks from him, so I was really wanting this to remain peaceful.
Anyways, it took a lot of effort, chicken wing flapping, dodging Hey Hey because anytime we pick up a hen he gets all-
In the end we were finally able to get him to lead the rest into the coop for the night and now everyone is nice and cozy.
Now I’m dealing with some itchiness because, I the crazy chicken lady is allergic to chickens and whenever I’m around them too long or hold one for an extended period of time I get very itchy.

I hope you enjoyed the riveting tale
