Kinda later then I had expected, but then again I think that would be best as a lot of groups are having comebacks right now and upcoming months of the summer. I kind of wished they slipped in a mid summer comeback again with some small EP like they did two years ago.

They just had a comeback in March, so seven months seems like a quick turn around to me.

I am use to groups having comebacks every 4-5 months, and seeing them at their company like almost daily on some days raised my suspicion they would have a comeback ready around august like last year.

from which groups are you used to that? :pepelook: I think 6-7 month is the norm for groups right now

Dreamcatcher was pretty fast with releases when they redebuted as Dreamcatcher, Chase me, Goodnight, Fly high all came out in 2017 after that they slowed down a bit. I am sure Le Sserafim has been promoting new songs since like february or march too.

I assume Dreamcatcher was in a bit of survival mode after their redebut :sanapray:

LSFM had a japanese comeback, thats true, if they do those inbetween the waiting is not so high. It seems like surprsingly NMIXX never debuted in japan :passcodea:

Yup, Dreamcatcher was on their very last life line. They sold less than 10k physical sales with the first comeback then it steady went up to near 20k and it kept going up with each comeback. They flopped as Minx and their company decided to add two extra members for Dreamcatcher and took a risk that in the end was very rewarding to the point that the company named themselves Dreamcatcher company.

About Le Sserafim I am not sure, but I know they were promoting right before Nmixx their comeback, and Nmixx was done with promotions and Le Sserafim still was promoting and they even won again after Nmixx's promotions. I think even a month later I saw them still promoting songs and noticed they released new songs and MV's on YT. I am not up to date with them but I do enjoy most their songs.

I just learned it takes a minimum of 5 months for a group to comeback(ie from release of a mini album I think to next mini album) from some insider/ex kpop idol or other source.

To be fair I think tats maybe big4 which nmixx is under JYPE, but they also might hv other activities/rest time from festivals/non cb promotions. I think 4-5 mths is bare minimum for new song(s) creation/finalization, learning Choreography, recording n other parts of comeback plus u would (presumably) want the girls (or boys) to eat, sleep, rest, hv days off(if you don't think of them as robots/machines) n other things 20 yr olds might do even kpop idols. Non big4 ggs/bgs/solos might take more than 4/5 mths between cbs(especially nugus from nugu companies)

Even if nmixx could robotically keep up 5 mths between cbs since debut, I think NSWERS wallets might feel strained by keeping up with every release since 'O.O'/Ad Mare. I don't stan NMIXX but I'm tuned in for Haewon/Lily from time to time(Bae is also hilarious/interesting from tat 1 time I watched her video of her free time[more like prepared content but it was engaging/I was invested for tat one video, not enuf to seek out more from her or other nmixx members but diverting/interesting for those minutes at least n quite memorable enuf for me to think of Bae now)

Most ggs/veterans(I mean ggs after 4/5 yrs) either keep up 5 mth pipeline or slow down somewhat after ages yrs, some might get second or even third win. But 4/5 mths pipeline seems unlikely to me for entire length of most 7 yr contracts(let alone straining wallets of fans). After 2/3/4 yrs I think concerts/tours/fan membership packages might be things extra to cbs tat companies might be expanding to(does nmixx hv yearly fan membership packages/seasons greetings?) Srry for rambling on, this has been a off the cuff SHA-talk on random kpop comebacks n related stuff. Thnx for listening(or reading if u got this far) 😆 🤣 😂 😹

Twice frequently had 3+ comebacks in a year. For example, 2018 had: What Is Love? (mini), Summer Nights (repackage of What Is Love, with new title track Dance the Night Away and another new song), Yes or Yes (mini), Year of Yes (repackage of Yes or Yes, with new title Best Thing I Ever Did), AND ALSO, the Japanese album BDZ (which itself had three singles promoting it in 2018 - Candy Pop, Brand New Girl and BDZ - all of which had MVs and were performed on Japanese music shows - along with the OST track I Want You Back which also got a music video). Throughout this, title tracks would be performed between two-four weeks on music shows.

While they're an extreme case, 3 releases in a year wasn't uncommon. In 2017, Red Velvet released Rookie (mini), Red Summer (mini) and Perfect Velvet (full album). For example.

If Nmixx were like Twice, it would be reasonable to expect another comeback around now tbh!
But Nmixx has always:
1. Released far fewer songs than any other JYPE group since Miss A.
2. Had a music show performance schedule shorter than, at least, HYBE groups. I think they only do two weeks now?

Which is why Le Sserafim were still promoting while Nmixx has finished up.
I think there's two reasons for this. One is their division, Squ4d. Squ4d is supposed to be independently run by Lee Ji-Young, who was Twice's creative director between Page Two and Feel Special. It was given its name and branding specifically because it had greater autonomy from JYPE proper. I think Ji-Young has the internal clout to leave money on the table because she basically saved the company. For example, my feeling last year was that SKZ' Hop and Twice's Strategy were rushed releases to pad out JYPE's final quarter because their year-on-year revenue was about to show a significant decline. Itzy also put out Gold in that quarter. Nmixx didn't put put anything out. I think because Lee Ji-Young can just say no.
But secondly, Twice famously burned out from all the work they did, and I think there's an understanding that going slower is more beneficial both for health and, perhaps, long-term financial prospects.

About that last point: Girlgroups in the past had to strike while the iron was hot and release quick because they had a five year window of profitability. With the opening of the international market, this isn't true anymore. So I think there's less of a rush across all companies. For example, Ive only had one Korean release last year, despite being the arguably the highest-selling girlgroup. In the past ten years, you wouldn't expect a super successful group only in their third year to only do one release.

Also as JYP has so many active groups now, one group not releasing anything for a little longer should be far less impactful than in the past.. so there is less need to drive the artists into burnouts :sanapray:

IVE had a japanese comeback in August, so if they just see that es equivalent, their comeback schedule was pretty normal. I know for Twice it always felt like an attachment to the korean comeback, but not every label has to see it like that :catglare:
