Nosferatu, produced by Prana Film, is one of my all time favorite horror movies. It’s a silent black and white movie from 1922, influenced off of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula.

The director of the film, F.W. Murnau, knew he’d run into legal troubles if he kept the script a mirrored version of the novel, which was very popular and had been out for a few decades by the time Nosferatu was in the works. Some of his changes would be considered the same as removing and renaming certain characters. >.>
When it comes to Count Orlok (Nosferatu), other than being a vampire and minor exaggerations of specific details, I would argue they’re both very different. The sketchy changes would start with the sun weakening Dracula whereas the sun kills Nosferatu. Dracula creates vampires versus Nosferatu only going after then to kill and eat. Beyond this, Dracula is presented as a well-mannered gentleman. Count Orlok comes off as a beastly unappealing creature from the depths of hell. He looks exactly like the rats he uses to spread a plague amongst people of the town.

Unfortunately, for those involved in producing the film, Bram Stoker’s estate still filed a lawsuit and the judge ordered for all copies and film reels of Nosferatu to be destroyed. Albin Grau, one of the founders of Prana Film, had to close the company and file for bankruptcy.

<.< That wasn’t the end for Nosferatu. One copy made its way to the states and well, it’s safe to say Count Orlok’s legacy and popularity still lives on…..even though he is a pile of dust.

Time for some fun facts because who doesn’t love those. :dubueh:

Because it’s a black and white movie, most of the scenes were filmed during the day. Filming a black and white movie at night would be difficult and even more so when the main character can only exist and stroll about at night……so it was filmed during the day and tinted blue to give it “night time” effect.
:icgyu: Twas smart.

A hyena was used to film a scene of a werewolf.

Nosferatu currently lives under the sea at the Krusty Krab, endlessly flipping the light switch.

Have you seen Nosferatu? Would You watch it? Are you into vampires???

:pepecry1::pepecry1: A Nosferatu enthusiast
They set the stepping stones of horror movies. Plus they have the added bonus of being silent films. Excess blood and ritual aren’t an always needed to make a scene scary. :sanapray:

Nosferatu on the outside seems like a savage but tbf anyone can become savage if given the right circumstances. I don’t think the film talks about Noseferatu’s past so it’s not clear what made him the way he is. For all we know he could have ended up the way he did because of how humans treated him :dubuthink:

:icgyu: There's always a past. And I too, loathe humans :maheart:

His stint on spongebob gave him some humanity but he still released plagued mice on the town >.>
