Group [OFFICIAL] NCT DoJaeJung Thread (2 Viewers)

[the101]

NCT DoJaeJung, also known as DJJ, is a sub-unit of the boy group NCT with have a highly vocal driven, mature R&B focused sound. The songs are mature and sensual, as is the choreography. Although it is intricate and precise like other NCT choreography, it is less intensive to reflect the vocal focus of the group.

NCT has three fixed sub-units: NCT 127, NCT Dream and WayV, as well as a fourth rotational unit NCT U. NCT U combines members from different units that suit a song, so for example, main vocalists on a ballad or main dancers on a performance-driven song. The member combination varies by song.

NCT DoJaeJung is a member unit, or a mini sub-unit, described as a fixed unit.

NCT DoJaeJung has 3 members: Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo. Doyoung and Jaehyun were founding members of NCT in the debut NCT U unit, while Jungwoo joined NCT in 2018. All three are members of the permanent NCT 127 sub-unit. Doyoung and Jaehyun are both main vocalists in 127, while Jaehyun and Jungwoo are both lead dancers. Jungwoo is also a lead vocalist. DoJaeJung does not have fixed positions, although Doyoung is the leader and Jaehyun usually functions as the center. Members share vocals and dance.
There is not a rapper, although Jaehyun can rap.

The trio made its debut unofficially as a grouping during the Neo City The Link+ shows at Jamsil Stadium in 2022, as part of NCT 127's Neo City: The Link Tour, debuting the song "Can We Go Back." They reappeared as a trio for a special holiday cover medley, then during year-end gayo performances performing "Can We Go Back." In March 2022, they were announced officially as a new unit.

The group made its debut on April 17 with the mini, “Perfume" and became the best-selling sub-unit debut in Hanteo history.

DoJaeJung FAQs

Is this the first new sub-unit since WayV?
Yes and no. In 2021, WayV launched two mini units: WayV Kun & Xiaojun and WayV Ten & YangYang that each released a single. So those would be the first member units. This unit is described as the first fixed member unit.

Why now?
The first NCT members will be enlisting - I would suspect creating sub-units allows for additional growth and opportunities in the interim. We may see other sub-units!

Are these members still in other groups?
Yes, all three are in NCT 127, a fixed sub-unit, as well as rotational NCT U units as it suits them. They are also always a part of NCT.

Didn't they perform as a group before?
Yes, they made their debut as a mini-unit during the Neo City the Link+ tour dates at Jamsil Stadium, along with another mini unit of 127 members. The group then performed the same song on year-end 2022 Gayos. That song is on their debut EP! They also performed as a trio on a special holliday medley in 2022 for Czennies.

How this different than NCT 127 and other NCT units?
DJJ's music is more straightforward r&b, without the experimental instrumentals and strong hip-hop emphasis of NCT 127. The sound is more mature than NCT Dream and more vocally driven than WayV, although there are similiarities to some of the other unit's b-side.

Additionally, Jaehyun is one of the few baritones in NCT; while his lower tones are often used to create harmonies in 127, they are stressed more heavily here to create balance in the vocal blend, as well as his falsetto. Jungwoo also explores a wider range of his voice than in his 127 work. Doyoung and Jaehyun are often counter-balanced in harmonies in 127 and this is expanded further in DJJ songs.

In 127, there are three more vocalists vying for parts - main vocalist Taeil, lead vocalist Haechan and sub-vocalist Yuta, in addition to harmonies from the three rappers.
