Music critic Yang Soha posted a long article on Red Velvet's musical development at toplein.com (in Korean). Thanks to Red Velvet Charts for highlighting this article.

Excerpts:

Red Velvet is currently the most special team in the K-pop scene. ... In the last article , I summarized the musical characteristics of K-pop after the 2.5th generation, and emphasized the three characteristics of 'storytelling', 'dynamics', and 'vocal management' as the most important factors.

And Red Velvet is a team that utilized the above three elements best and effectively than any other group in the period after K-pop recorded rapid growth in the mid-2010s.
