I think the beef is contextually important though, that’s the thing, and it would make no sense to ignore it when discussing the song written lyrically, musically, and stylistically by it — it being a club banger a la drake is one of the reasons why it stood out and became the song of the summer (and I say this as a tumblr girlie who grew up thinking vroom vroom was a song everyone knew)
as a disclaimer, I personally was holding for either a blaf or nlu win, moreso blaf for roty and nlu for soty
that being said, I think it’s more fair that voters vote on what they think is the best in each category without consideration of nominees in other categories or historical wins; if a song wins both it’s only fair even if I personally was rooting for a split between soty and roty

Sure if u say so, maybe i'm too emotional where a song should provoke something more than just a club banger and a good clapback. Sure the lyrics are great and thats why he would win song of the year for the lyrics but then maybe record would've gone to someone else. I still don't agree that it was the song of the summer, but probs it was a big deal there. It was a moment for their feud and that's it for me.

I don't have as much an issue with that winning -- which was at least culturally relevant -- as I do with Beyonce winning AOTY over much more relevant albums. It kinda felt more like "sorry, we forgot to give this to you in a year when you actually delivered AOTY." But those apology awards just end up doing the same thing to deserved winners in the meantime (like how Leonardo DiCaprio kept getting shafted for his Oscar until they finally gave it for one of his weaker movies).

An award is just a door prize smh (I used to believe they were given to the best when I was younger but a internet blogger/Comics writer/tv guy/Garfield tv cartoon writer~producer writing about the Oscars made me think otherwise, before tat tho-the title of the reality show America's next top model & the fact tat the contestants/first prize/top model were never actual models hired by fashion industry or remembered thereafter made me think hey, it's just a lie/hype. Same as any Ms America/Ms Universe/Ms World or any beauty pageant contestant was just a publicity gimmick to sell the winner/show to the public/advertisers.)

I noted there was a kerfuffle with the grammts best new artist previously at one point, I thought it was about Lady antebelum but it seems I was misremembering or sthg-actually now just read tat in 2010 Lady Gaga wasn't eligible cos the rules were tat her nomination in 2008(for different category) rendered her ineligible n rules tweaked so tat previous nominations/songs did not mean an artist could not be considered for best new artist if other criteria were fulfilled: rules changed more than once, so doesn't mean it is Best new artist of 2024 just whoever made most impact (who hadn't been ineligible even if tat artist debuted before 2024). Ie if Artist x debuted n was nominated for 2024 but an earlier artist who debuted 2 yrs earlier with more experience(such as Lady Gaga in 2008/2010) n made more impact 2 yrs after debut was nominated then artist X was outaluck due to timing. So I let go many yrs ago of awards being for the best(tho I still think The Artist deserved Oscar Best picture watever yr it won no matter who else was there tar yr n however forgotten it is now!)
