A few league of legends fans I caught complaining about the "kpop"ification of League sports teams with all of this new merch. Do they even realize that physical sports have been milking their fans the same way since the beginning? Trading cards, jerseys, signed footballs soccer balls etc, everything themed anything you could get your favorite team on a toothbrush if you wanted. god awful expensive tickets to the world cup or NBA finals or any big league game. If anything I'm surprised it's taken eSports teams this long to tap into more ways to make money because that's just how it is when you have very passionate fanbases
