@AmericanMindset this is the ATL fanfic I said I was writing!
Chapter 1
“Come on, Brady and Lydia!” Jenna Thornton called upstairs to her kids. “It’s time to go to Daddy’s!”
Her best friend Meagan had just honked her car horn outside. Jenna was about to go to the Warped Tour show in Charlotte, but first, she needed to drop the kids off at their dad’s house.
“Yay!” Lydia squealed as she practically flew down the stairs. Brady followed immediately thereafter at a similar pace.
“Did y’all clean up your rooms?” Jenna asked the kids. She got two yeses. “Wonderful! Let’s go!”
When she got to Brendan’s house and rang the doorbell, the door was opened by his girlfriend, Angelina. She smiled when she saw her future stepchildren.
“Hey, y’all!” she greeted them. “Jenna, what’s the occasion?”
“Oh, Brendan didn’t tell you? I’m going to a concert today with Meagan and Christy.”
“Oh, I got you! Yeah, he did tell me. Well, come on in, kids. I made a blueberry pie!”
“Yum!” Lydia exclaimed.
“Be good for Daddy and Angie, okay?” Jenna said, hugging and kissing the two children goodbye. “I love you, and I’ll see you later tonight or in the morning.”
“Have fun at the concert,” Angelina said to Jenna. “And take pictures!”
“I sure will!”
On the way to their seats at the concert, Jenna started having contractions. They weren’t strong ones, but they were noticeable and a little uncomfortable.
“Are you having contractions?” Meagan asked her friend.
“Yeah… but I’m sure they’re just practice ones,” Jenna said.
“Okay, if you say so.”
“We’re going to keep a close eye on you, though,” Christy chimed in. “I’ve got a stopwatch ready to time the contractions.”
“Christy!” Jenna protested. “You’re not my mom, and I WILL see All Time Low in concert today!”
While Meagan and Christy danced and rocked out to the music, Jenna, who was sitting down, simply clapped and sang along. Her contractions had pretty much stopped by the time All Time Low started their set, but just as they were getting ready to do their encore performance of “Dear Maria, Count Me In”, she heard a loud POP down there, followed by a whooshing noise.
“I’ve got a picture, I’m coming with you,” Alex Gaskarth sang out. “Dear Maria, count me in – there’s a story at the bottom of this bottle, and I’m a pen…”
But during the beginning guitar riff, he got distracted by a girl who looked to be in labor.
“Now, who the hell would come to a music festival while pregnant?” he wondered as he stared in awe.
Suddenly, Jack Barakat broke his thoughts by shouting, “Dude! It’s your cue!”
“No, there’s a pregnant woman in the audience, and she looks to be in labor!” Alex reported, pointing at the girl while talking to the guitarist. “I need to help her!”
Jack sighed and told Zack Merrick, their bassist, that they had a problem with a heavily pregnant fan.
“Alex! We’ve still got one more song to perform!” Zack protested. Then, he saw what was happening. “Ah, shit! Is there a midwife in the house?!”
There were murmurs in the crowd. Some of them just stood or sat there and gawked at the scene, and others stared at each other in confusion. Finally, two women showed up at the barricade, and Zack sat down to talk to them.
“I’m a midwife, and she’s a doula,” the taller woman said, pointing to her friend to indicate who the doula was.
“Perfect! See that lady in the third row? If you could go help her out, that would be golden.”
When Alex came near the scene, the pregnant girl was on the ground in a hot, sweaty mess, trying to breathe through her contractions.
“My God, are you in labor?!” Alex exclaimed.
The woman nodded. Meanwhile, the midwife and the doula weaved through the crowd to get to the scene in the third row.
“Ma’am?” the midwife asked the pregnant woman. When she had the lady’s attention, she added, “I’m Felicia, and that’s my doula, Ellie. Are you okay?”
“Do you want us to help you?” Ellie added.
“Please do,” one of the other girls begged. “I’m Meagan, by the way. The pregnant one is Jenna, and our other friend is Christy.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Jenna!” Felicia said. “Alex, pick her up and take her somewhere cool.”
“That’s good thinking,” Alex said, lifting Jenna into his arms. “Upsy-daisy!”
“Where are you taking me?!” Jenna shrieked, trying to wriggle free. “Put me down, Alexander!”
“I’m bringing you to our tour bus to help you deliver,” Alex answered as he led Felicia and Ellie to All Time Low’s tour bus. “You’ll thank us later.”
“What?! But this wasn’t in my birth plan – I’m supposed to be delivering at the hospital!”
“Honey, it’s too late for that,” Felicia said. “At this point, you’d probably have given birth in the ambulance, anyway. Please cooperate with us.”
“I am NOT giving birth on a—”
Alex covered Jenna’s mouth with his hand as he boarded the bus. “Shh… yes, you are. We have comfortable conditions, anyway. Where do you want me to put her, ladies?”
Felicia looked around for something soft and found a large couch in the back. “That couch will do.”
Alex gently set Jenna down on the couch and placed her feet on the ottoman in front of it.
“There you are,” he said. “I have to get back to the band – I can already hear the fans chanting our name. But congratulations on the baby, and good luck with the delivery, okay?”
“Thank you so much, Alex,” Jenna said, opening her arms for a hug. Alex squeezed her tight for a beat and then pulled away. “You give the best hugs.”
“And so do you. Have a good rest of your day, Jenna!”
“You, too.”
“What?!” Brendan exclaimed. “She’s giving birth… on a tour bus?!”
Meagan and Christy were waiting for the guys to come back and finish their set when she had called.
“Yeah, apparently,” Meagan said. “She went into labor during All Time Low’s concert, and the band’s lead singer noticed and came to help. Then, one of the other band members called for a midwife, and lo and behold, one showed up. She even had a doula with her!”
“Whoa… wait until I tell Angie and the kids! They are NOT going to believe this. Christ, I’m not even sure I believe it.”
“I guess you would’ve had to be there. I’m sure Jenna will call with the full story.”
“Oh, I hope she does! I’d love to hear this one.”
