Opinions on Duolingo? (2 Viewers)

This is a really random thread but what are your thoughts on Duolingo? In case you don't know what it is, Duolingo is a free website for language learning. It has over 40+ languages on it and teaches some endangered ones as well. It teaches people more languages than the U.S public school system It is famous for this green bird:

Now, the thing is that when you miss a lesson/break your streak just like I did yesterday, you get notifications. And then it becomes a meme like this:

Currently, I'm using it to learn 4 languages, but the thing is that it can build bad habits for a beginner learner. What I mean by this is that at one point, you'll be better off to leave it than keep being on it at some point. It can be a helpful tool if you are starting out but not a good suggestion for the long term. It's always a good idea to have better language learning resources as you progress. The notifications aren't as bad as it sounds, it's more one big meme. The real problem is the way it teaches learners. Like I said, don't be afraid to use it as long as you:

• Turn notifications off (Only if you want to, just a suggestion if you don't want to be getting emails telling you to come back/continue your lessons)
• Only use it for short term (You don't have to complete the whole thing for your language, and I wouldn't suggest it either. Just complete the basic lessons to help you get started and then find a different language learning resource that's reliable and can help you improve by building good habits)

I tried learning morean and only after months did it stop sending notifications 😭

I'll usually download it, be on it for very long period of time, and slowly forget abt it
I have gotten the notifications like "you didn't do your German lessons, but duo kept learning without you" like making me feel bad
but I think duolingo is an okay language app thingy

I dislike it a lot. Particularly in the grammar sense and for languages with notably different alphabets. I don’t think it teaches those things at all basically from what I remember. Vocab wise it’s fine.

I’m not a fan of it. If you’re learning a language that uses a different alphabet it doesn’t really teach you how to pronounce it properly or how to read it properly
