My mother worked in law enforcement so I got to talk to a lot of Animal control officers growing up. All of them were afraid of Opossums calls because the leather padded gloves that protect against dog bites don't work against Opossums.

That is a fun fact! They are very different looking from opossums, despite the similar name.

@centen for real. I want to know the reasoning of the guy who decided a possum matched the description of an opossum. Or maybe I want to know the description the first guy gave. It was probably something like “is small, has eyes, has fur, and has 4 legs”

Unfortunately, my father has engraved the fear of possums in me. As a small child, I didn’t mind them. But now seeing my father, absolutely terrified of them I grew to be scared of them as well.
