People need to stop getting stuck/lost in mountains (1 Viewer)

My mom and some of my other family members went hiking a while ago on some mountain that wasn’t that close, but close enough to go to. Recently, I saw a story about some people who got stranded on the mountain and about how they had to be rescued. I mentioned it to my mom, but didn’t go in much detail. My mom said the next day that she saw the story, and started talking about the details. I realized that the details didn’t match the story I saw, and eventually we realized that it was two separate instances on that mountain in the span of maybe 4 days Reason number 10000 not to go hiking imo. Everyone was fine in the end, but their wallets probably weren’t.

That’s unfortunate. The mountains can be dangerous for sure. As a firefighter he was probably more prepared than most too I would think.

Yeah most would think that he was, but he couldnt have guessed his leg would be broken.
Also he dressed pretty thinly. It was summer but still on a high mountain it was snowing still.

Yeah some factors are just not predictable necessarily, stuff happens to even the most prepared in a wilderness like that. The dressing thinly is surprising, when hiking it’s basic knowledge you should take warm ish clothes even in the summer and even if it’s hot during the day. But who knows why he didn’t do so, it’s not like we can know what happened with that.

Actually, unless a life flight helicopter was used the only people who's wallets get effected are tax payers. Being lost in the mountains is better than found in the city.

spraining one's ankles whilst hiking - $100 emergency bill
losing another CL - $5000 hospital bill
getting lost in the mountains with one's mother - priceless (but worth it!!!)

No, I haven’t. But I’ve had back aches from it. Not an acute injury though
