People used to Typhoons and Hurricanes .... (1 Viewer)

I'm from the South so I always associate strong winds with tornados and there is a typhoon making landfall in Kansai rn and the wind is so loud and I live on the 10th floor of the building so during strong bursts I can feel the building sway slightly. How do y'all get used to this?

I'm completely fine btw, but it's like upwards of 80kmh winds outside and the trains are still running here and like 40% of businesses are still open lol?

from south louisiana, hurricane extraordinaire. in my mind hurricanes are just so natural that it just felt like a normal yearly occurrence. like summer comes and its time for hurricanes and going weeks without power and a mess of neighborhoods.... its very scary but so many hurricanes we actually stayed home for instead of evacuating when you live thru them enough ig you just get an eye for which ones you can stay home for and which ones you gotta book it. (but you can never really know they can get unpredictable) but of course, always just keep listening to the weather reports/government 😭 being on the 10th floor sounds rough in it all though, i cant imagine 😰

and everything being open sounds about right typically they'd always wait til the last minute for everything to close down where im from, only if they know its actually severely life threatening.

hope you continue to stay safe & have lots of water/non-perishable foods incase power goes out 🙏

I don't lol but considering the trains are still ruining I take that as a sign I'm in the clear. worse case scenario I go on a crash diet and loose a few pounds today.

I did! Yes, I've been here since late March and I love it. Vocabulary at intermediate Japanese is beating me up rn but I'm loving it here regardless. I'm able to struggle through reading manga and watching anime which is nice.

that's great - how is japan compared to say down under (where you didn't enjoy it as much) are you enjoying your stay in Japan?

Food is amazing, people are amazing, and the cost of living doesn't make me want to drive into the outback to be eaten by dingoes
