I work as a pharmacist at a very busy store owned by one of the largest chains (not CVS) but I support these walkouts. I live in the metro area that this walkout occurred and is going to reoccur. It's fking insane how much work we have to do and increasingly more so as corporate greed piles on more responsibilities. Combine this with the often mishandled rollout of the new COVID vaccine PLUS Flu season and you have a recipe for disaster and stress. I fill so. many. prescriptions. And I can't do filling if I have to give a vaccine. Therefore the snowball just keeps getting bigger. And we are one of the more okay staffed pharmacies.
So all I'm saying is think twice before you show attitude towards the staff at your local pharmacy because of some minor inconvenience. Words of encouragement and empathy go a long way for staff at these pharmacies. If you are a patient at one of these pharmacies and think they are understaffed and overworked, you can always show support by calling their customer service number and share that they need more staffing in order to carry out prescription orders and vaccinations in a safe manner. It takes hard work to try to get the corporate leaders to listen let alone make change. Anything to keep the the workers voice heard is invaluable.
