I’ve long known about “Bleeding Kansas”, but only just learned Nebraska was in a similar situation. Basically, what happened was that the US government formed the states of Kansas and Nebraska, and declared that the populace of both states would vote whether to be free states (no slavery) or slave states (slavery is legal). This was shortly before the US Civil War. Bleeding Kansas is known as such because many people, both from slave states and free states, went to Kansas to try to influence the vote one way or another, and violence was pretty common. But what’s interesting is that didn’t really happen in Nebraska. There’s a few reasons for this, but it’s a bit interesting because I feel like Nebraska is stereotypically the state people say no one cares about. And this doesn’t help Nebraskas case
