i never thought i'd get to see a pg rated version of mommae in my lifetime but here we are
mommae is one of my guilty pleasure songs and one of the big reasons is the 18+ lyrics so like... it's something
though i don't always like explicit lyrics. like, maybe it's because of the language barrier but i vastly prefer the korean version of all i wanna do to the english one, i'm going of of translations but idk the korean lyrics just sound nicer than the english ones, a lot more tasteful even when implying the same stuff. like "Put yo' panties to the side if it's alright" is a bit too on-the-nose for me while "Show me the tattoos on your body, if it’s alright" implies the same thing but is a little more indirect, and honestly it just feels better to me idk, and if someone actually were to say this to me in a romantic context (not jay park himself ew) i'd probably go red. also the second prechorus sounds so much better in a woman's voice (thank you hoody). jay used the secodn verse to flex on the haterzz but honestly that just seems out of context, even loco's verse where he claims to be better than all the gyopo oppas (on a gyopo's song, lmao) fits better. maybe the lyrics in korean aren't that great either - someone fluent in both english and korean could testify to that ig (maybe if i ever get to meet matthew of zb1 i'd get into a literary analysis of all i wanna do w him?? jk lmao). if that's the case, i mean, it's pop music, the lyrics aren't the main focus here. that said, i do prefer the korean version
though ofc the very explicit lyrics of mommae are an exception, i really have no clue why i like that song so much (the only logical reasons i can think of is that the central rif in the instrumental really helps in creating that moody atmosphere, and honey j's choreo slays). but i do, and to hear a 17 year old sing it (and dedicate an entire verse to... being a cutieful little 17 year old) is very disconcerting ngl, like who let him in that group. but then even if no minors were in the mommae group in project 7, it would have to be toned down for the show. and yeah while yichen, who is 26, did show a bit of his mommae (they sang "i'll show you my mom-mom-mommae" rather than "i wanna see your mom-mom-mommae - ngl good lyrics if someone wants to do a duet version) which ngl was hot (thank god it's adults that are doing this now, 2017 broduce was insane), it would still be too tame. like they'd still be replacing sexy with pretty and idk that's not what the song is about guys!!
that said i don't like jay park, for reasons that are fairly obvious to all.
