can't believe i'm seeing this rn but i wholeheartedly agree. groups like the wind (whose songs seem like they've been lying around in gfriend's or lovelyz's drawers for too long) are prime examples of how there really isn't much difference yet people like to identify so strongly with these silly labels omg...

You'd think for such a progressive fandom like the international kpop community there wouldn't be much gg and bg shit. The only big difference are the fandoms themselves.

Ugh tell me about it! The Wind, TWS, a few of TXT's songs, a few of Cravity's too, there are probably more bgs to mentioned but specifically The Wind and TWS could easily be girls and the stans would go fucking wild, calling The Wind 'nugu queens' (they aren't really nugu, more mid-tier, but you get my point) and TWS monster rookies. But they aren't women so it doesn't matter for them.

Yeah I've been realising it recently, the fact that stans would rather buy physical copies of an overworked group than boycott it speaks volumes (I'm looking at Engenes). That six day palestinian boycott too which didn't work cause we're all too up our asses to stop listening to spotify, it was like only for the big four and they still couldn't stop. Like we're not good people, I'm not too, I stream txt full well knowing that Hybe has Israeli ties. I don't feel good about it but when I click on a song I don't think about Hybe I think about txt. Then also the fact that female idols are held to both feminine and masculine standards whilst male idols are barred from doing feminine shit altogether, stans lose their mind if a bg cover a gg whether or not they keep it feminine or change it to masculine (which I assume they would be more comfortable with since, yk, gender expectations). Damned if you do damned if you don't.
I know you said another topic for another time but I gotta get it off my chest lmao I think the criticism from outsdie towards K-pop stans is warranted

Thinking about it, if I do have a reason to prefer bgs it's only because it's in a lower key and there are gg songs that are too high pitched for me. Those producers really love straining those girls' voices!

yeah exactly!!! and on the other end some of moonbyul's solos genuinely sound like bg music (eclipse sounds like a typical 2018-19 bg song, touchin' and movin' sounds like the kind of sound a male dance-line member would go for their solos, is this love is basically plot twist). songs are shopped around to different artists all the time - don't call me by shinee was originally meant for boa. granted she was the one who rejected it and instead recced shinee for it, and the song went through a few modifications but my point still stands - she's the one who's done songs like moto, rock with u, and more recently forgive me.

i get it, some people may prefer hearing female or male voices in their music, some may prefer the aesthetics and fashion of girl or boy groups (cause lbr that's a huge part of kpop, kpop is as much of a visual experience as it is an auditory one), heck some may prefer to stan groups of the gender they're attracted to or the gender they're not attracted to (can't relate, i'm bi without much of a preference for any one gender in particular). fair enough, preferences are fine imo. the problem imo lies in people basing their entire identity as a kpop stan around the label of a "bg stan" or a "gg stan". you're just closing yourself off that way imo.

I fully agree with Moonbyul. Touchin and movin sounds so much like a bg song. Don't call me being originally for Boa makes so much sense bro it sounds like an updated kind of hip hop sound of girls on top! (using updated loosely here since got is pretty timeless)

Oh yeah I'm so fine with preferences. I started out as a girl group listener and slowly moved over to boys, but I wouldn't say I exclusively listen to one or the other. Not when I was 12, not now. I just don't understand how people can label themselves 'gg stan' wait you already said that nvm lmao no notes I fully agree with you.
