I didn't want to have this discussion at first out of fear of being labeled a nasty person as I am with many topics people don't understand my POV on. But then I realized there was another component to it: I don't know what to actually say. You need a talking point to start somewhere. So my talking point is this
Some folks try so hard to protect minors from harm that their overprotectiveness becomes its own kind of harm.
I'm specifically talking about the touchy topic involving where the line is with teens and sexuality. Should they be allowed to express and explore themselves in appropriate quantities and what does "appropriate" mean here? I think some people are well meaning when they discourage people from having sexual conversations that involve teens because their place in that world is vastly different from that of an adult but I don't think it should be seen as black and white like sexuality is oil and teens are water. I dislike how people who present conversations like this no matter how collected and easy to understand are often mislabeled by people as being predatory and yes these kinds of conversations can be when spearheaded by the malicious but if it's coming from someone who's genuinely having an objective look at how teenhood and sexuality is danced around weirdly by society when it doesn't need to get compicated it's my moral duty to let you know that you should not call that person a pedophile because that's not what that word was ever meant to be used for. If you dedicate so much time to try and pry teens away from our objectively natural curiosity to this part of our development it opens the door for far more dangerous and reckless behavior to occur as a result. I feel like a middle ground should be maintained. Things like online friends having boundaries and not wanting sexual conversations between them and younger users on SNS is valid but parents sort of giving their teens bubble-boy treatment when it comes to sexual education is counterproductive. Bad things can happen, yes. But you don't know how to not do something wrong unless you first learn how to do it right.

I have trouble organizing my thoughts. Consider this a bookmark that will then contain my fully formed thought, edited in, if I make one coherent enough to post. if.

Overall I do agree with all the points you make, though. This is also a genuinely hard issue for anyone to find institutional guidance precisely because everybody plays coy with this subject in lieu of trying to help to safely investigate what are best practices.
