Did anyone else have patriotism classes in school? I remember in elementary school we learned about how it was great to be American and learned a bunch of patriotic songs. I feel like it’s a bit weird now

No just 'please stand for the pledge, Ceremonies for veterans, Flag Day (We had to sing old American songs ) , and just off days for federal holidays

i went to a weird as heck school, and even we didn't have that !! we had mindfulness classes, did therapy, and had yoga classes, among other things. i've never heard of a patriotism class. that just seems ... so incredibly strange.

It was a temporary class, I forget how long. But not like a year on it

Possibly a weird take but I think this would be amazing to have as part of the core curriculum. Helping students become better at understanding themselves could never be a bad thing

Also, just a straight up "America is amazing" class? Nah, we didn't have that. The whitewashed history classes did enough of that for us

that's not a weird take at all ! it 1000% should be a part of the core curriculum !! they were incredibly beneficial classes for me, even with how unconventional of an experience it all was. i highly recommend.

That murica is great and we need to sing a bunch of songs of praise and isn’t everything great guys
Jk I don’t fully remember but I remember there were songs and they did say something about be proud of your country and so on. I think the was when we were 8-10 years old or so

Not all. The star spangled banner was one, America the Beautiful another, I think My Country Tis of Thee, Grand Old Flag, and This Land is Your Land? Might be more and some I might be misremembering
