Reasons why the 2nd Generation was better than the 3rd Generation (1 Viewer)

1. Closeness between groups

In my opinion, the closeness between Kpop groups was more shown. I don't know if I would say it was better but we definitely saw more groups showing their love for each other than now. With 3rd Generation groups I don't really see this closeness. Of course, there are some friendships between idols like (examples!) Red Velvet x Twice x Blackpink or Monsta X and BTS but I somehow feel that the 2nd Generation was closer.

2. Interactions between boygroups and girlgroups

Spoiler: Examples

Try to imagine this happening between 3rd generation groups...
Groups are already getting hate for just looking at each other.
Twitter, Instagram, youtube etc. would get a breakdown... Forever.
Of course there some interactions but not that much like I wish for.

3. The fandoms

Of course there were toxic fandoms too and we don't need to discuss which but if you look at the overall picture, it seems to me that 2nd generation fan clubs were more friendly connected with each other. Even when there was rivalry.

The 3rd generation isn't bad. But the 2nd generation was better in my opinion.

I don't agree with things like "2nd Generation had more talent or the better songs" because this was a different time but the points above make the 2nd Generation better for ME. Remember - this is just MY opinion.

I don't necessarily agree with 1st, i think lot of groups are close these days too.. but i agree with the rest definitely. I feel like the fandom has gotten more toxic, i-fans especially, i miss the time when everyone were more and less multifandomers.

well, this was the worst shit ever in kpop history but for the 3rd there is happening some new shit every weekend. But maybe I just feel this way because everything what happens now is easier to remember for me.

The fandoms were definitely way worse. Are we going to just forget when an event was planned to give girls generation a black ocean? Also the closeness with members, tbh I think the chemistry is still there Today.

i agree about the closeness

in 3rd gen you can still find some group who are close
but generally in 2nd gen groups were more close between gg and gg, gg and bg etc...

I think the best part of the 2nd gen was that everyone seemed to enjoy what they're doing and fans were more about having fun rather than focused on charts and sales. Of course, I'm not saying numbers weren't important, because everybody loves a good receipt but there wasn't a success obsession like nowadays.

Guess it depends on who you stan. GFriend and ASTRO have a million interactions. TWICE and Got7 too.
I guess YG and SM groups have held back this gen though, so you're right in that aspect :P

Yes, the fandoms have changed and that change is called Social media.
When I got into kpop, our only battlefield were the YT comments section. Now, you can find fandoms fighting in every possible platform for the most pitiful things.

2nd gen was not that internet heavy era so closeness etc wont be that much into the gossip or nowadays problematic channels etc

Nowadays google is the doomsday for all idols therefore they have to keep their distances etc etc

I fully agree.

For me, the things that made the second gen more epic and memorable than the third gen:

- more collaborations between groups, gg+gg, bg+bg, gg+bg

- more interactions between (boy and girl) groups and groups of different companies

- higher quality level of variety: variety kings and queens SNSD and Super Junior, but also members of other groups did well

- Invincible Youth, season 1 (epitomy that symbolised all that was great in the 2nd gen)

- truly legendary groups: the top groups now might be more and easier successful worldwide, but the top groups of the 2nd gen - SNSD, Big Bang, Wonder Girls, DBSK etc - were more epic in the scope of talents and distinctiveness they brought to the table (they got more game)

- more 'national hit' level songs

In 2nd gen era, the peaks seemed to be higher, and the lows (black ocean, group split ups) seemed to be lower.

But, 3rd gen groups are making their own path right now, and fair's fair, compared with the '2.5 gen' groups (2010/11-2013), the 3rd gen top groups are doing better and making their own waves and memorable peaks.

I wasn’t a fan back then so I can’t really say but judging by the rotations & memebers leaving groups hard to see the closeness Of the groups. But that’s argueable at the end of the day. And for GG/BG interactions I just assumed company restrictions caused all that. I remember ikon did an interview saying how they could never hang out with BlackPink because of YGs policies. I do agree with 3& 4 though
