Santa used to be depicted as small (1 Viewer)

In the 19th century, it was fairly common to depict Santa as small and elf like, unlike modern Santa. This can be seen in art and literature at the time, one famous example being “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.

“But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.”

“He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;”
