The very first instance of “self-destruct” (and its derivations) dates back to 1966, with its first known usage being from a well known voiceover from Mission Impossible, which states “the tape (or message in later versions) will self-destruct in 5 seconds”. All other variants of the word (self-destruction, self-destructive, etc) came after.

These vids are long gone now, but when 1D was still together, there was a series of fanfic videos called "The Adventurous Adventures opf One Direction". If they still existed, I would've posted a clip from the second installment. There was a scene where the villain (they were superheroes) is trying to use a "self-destruct" machine to blow up the airship they're being held hostage on, but he has to put in a passcode first, thereby delaying the process. lol at the end of the scene, the machine goes "Thank you for putting in your passcode. The ship will self-destruct in..." (idr how long they had, but it was waaaaaaaay more than five seconds lol)

But unfortunately, the creator was a jackass and deleted all of them when he deactivated, so this explanation will have to suffice.

Why in the whole world would one want to destroy oneself?? (using alliteration btw lol)
It’s not generally used in a positive way :lisalaugh: I’ve heard it used when describing others people’s moods or behaviors that’s cause negative things towards themselves. For example, “his gambling addiction led him down a path of self destruction”. There are a lot of action, behaviors, and feelings that are often described as being self destructive, but the person in question may not recognize that they are self destructive or they may recognize it but have a hard time changing it. Those are the cases where I hear “self destruction” used most often

Ohhh yeah like if people go to wrong ways or make wrong decisions that causes them to destroy their lives... :hmmm:
