how do we feel about less-than-happy endings?

whenever I pick up a new book, the very first thing I do right after reading the synopsis is flip to the back to glance at the endong. so no, I do not like negative endings! I curl up to read a good book and ENJOY myself, not cry for hours on end over a work of fiction!

I’m not opposed to them. Good endings and bad endings can both be great. In fact, bad endings for media can be really really good (imo)

I like bad endings
sunrise on the reaping had me crying at 4am when I finished it we were liars was also so sad
I like happy endings but I find that less than happy endings are impactful and I end up thinking about those endings way longer
