If you are a fan of the original movies and show (mainly the first movie) drop your expectations allll the way.
TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN FLOOR. I should have done that. I should have known they would ruin it.

I grew up with Lilo and Stitch since they originally released the first movie. I'd literally dream the whole movie when I was younger.
One of those 'I can recite it word-for-word kinda movies.'

Seeing how cute they made Stitch in the live action made me really excited. And then they showed who was playing Lilo. Maia is 100% Lilo.
Lilo and Stitch were the only goood parts of the live action. AND YES I did cry.
They kept Stitch's sad walk and when he gets arrested and talks about his broken family but that he found them all on his own. SOBBING!!!!!!!
Lilo didn't beat up Myrtle but she did push her and I get why they opted for a push instead of a punch to the face.
And Pudge the fish was present <3

What was missing.
No Ugly Ducking story. Maybe they wanted to save some of my tears x.x
Gantu. There's no Captain Gantu.
They moved Gantu's villain storyline to Jumba. And Jumba has an American accent In a world where we have Avatar, Alien, hell even Pirates of the Caribbean >.>
You have Sonic getting a makeover to look less scary but we can't have Gantu????
They removed Jumba's jolly, curious, like-able characteristics to basically have him be Gantu in Jumba's skin.
Stitch never dresses up as Elvis.
The ice cream guy is there but it's not a sunburnt guy tourist.

Pleakly does wear a dress but I feel like they missed an opportunity to cast a drag queen so they can lean better into Pleakly's theatrics and campy nature.
He is trying to blend in but the whole point of his character in the cartoon is that he's so over the top that it's funny other's don't notice he's not human when he is dressed up as one.

All these (except Jumba) I can understand as superficial and ofc they arent trying to make it exactly like the cartoon kinda like Lion King's situation.

BUT the biggest disappointment, they didnt stick with the whole point of the original.
Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind.
The original we have Nani's fight to keep Lilo under her custody and Bubbles sees Lilo is in capable hands with how much Nani risked to save Lilo against o.o aliens so he pretends all the crazy alien chase and house blowing up was a tiny blip. Point being, Nani is still Lilo's guardian.
With the live action, they introduced a new characters, David's grandma, Nani's neighbor.
So when they tell Nani she can't keep her, they give her the option to have her neighbor be Lilo's guardian and then Nani can go to Cali for school. With alien tech, Nani can teleport back to Lilo whenever she wants. But Nani technically lost custody of Lilo.
That is so far from the whole meaning.

Your fight means so much, you keep Lilo turned into your fight is mediocre, here is an option.

Anyways, I'm gonna go watch the original again.

I need to rewatch the original, too, but not bc I saw the live action version. It's bc the one time I did see it, I was too jacked up on post-op meds to really experience it. (this was after a nose and face job in 2004, btw, so not recent). Point being, the only part of the story I understood you describing was the ohana part. lol idk why I posted this under a complaint thread...

I need to rewatch the original, too, but not bc I saw the live action version. It's bc the one time I did see it, I was too jacked up on post-op meds to really experience it. Why do they rewrite perfectly good stories to slop (looking at you A:TLA Netflix, we don't even acknowledge the movie in this house)?

Maybe it's a good thing that Disney decided to stop with the live actions for a while since this ain't it.
Also if they ever do a Hercules and they screw that over, I'll stab a bitch.
The only change I will tolerate is if they make it accurate with the mythology

I love how they actually went and filmed in Hawaii though!! It makes it feel more real (*cough cough* snow white... The lion king)

Nope o.o I respect original Suki way too much (and for sure the worse live action episode )
But I did like it and I'll be here for Season 2. Princess Yue's wig still haunts me tho o.o They needed the movie offenders costume and wig department.

TBH, I forgot the live action was coming out, and I'm not surprised that they cut corners in a way that told a worse story. Frankly, these live action remakes need to stop making so much money at the box office, because that's the whole reason they keep turning out slop. Why invest in a good story, CGI, etc., when a worse version will still make a billion?

Noooo they fucked over Avatar. They made a surface level remake of the series but failed to get the big picture - the underlying symbolism of the small stuff.
Like Aang isn't a goofy kid, he says it once but he doesn't act upon it.
They portray as if Aang got trapped in the ice because he had to clear his head, not running away from his responsibilities, something that was central to Aang's character and arc.
Like they gave up so many arcs. Like Sokka's sexism which is vital to his character along the series.

I will that visually it looked great and was more accurate that the disaster they called a movie, but they took away everything that made the series perfect.
It's clear that whoever made it never really analyzed the series tbh
A:TLA is so much more complex. I feel like they would've done a great job with TLOK, which isn't so complex imo

We got the disney+ and hulu bundle for like 2 bucks month by adding my phone onto my parents phone plan

I loved the the animated original version. So much so that I could quote the movie. I went to go see the live action yesterday - I personally loved it too. They got the guy dropping the ice cream so accurately
