I've seen so many "it reads like wattpad" comments from people who don't understand it's meant for kids/teens generally unaware about kpop and Korean culture

Have they read much fan-fiction tho? Or Jenny Han YA fiction? (I only read the famous trilogy after watching the first movie, i had to as quickly as i could read it know how Lara Jean progressed. I only watched the movie cuz...uhhh, oh yeah the actress was Jubilee in one if the X-Men movies, n shes Asian-American.)

(I also read a few YA books like John Green n others.) Also trashy-ish books like the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy cos hey, there was a movie coming. Also it takes place in a country tats my nbr (with scenes in my country, tho unrecognisable [rlly i wonder if Hong Kong/China in tat series/world is even anything like real, from wat i read of places iv been to n know-nth resembles reality i can recognise.)

Shine reads like how I imagine the first book by a YA writer as famous as Jenny Han would. Even in my mind, when I think of ghost-writers for Shine, Jenny Han is the first name tat comes to mind. Tho i dont know if i believe it is her, or tat the style fits wat iv read b4.

You ever noticed how sophisticated the book "Reads", like a very smart 25 yr old wrote it-like maybe its written by Rachel 10 yrs in her future but looking bk. Only without the preamble "i was a teenager 10 yrs ago, about to debut in Girls Forever. This is my story." That kinda story. Id hate if the end of Bright or any third/final book, if it becomes a trilogy/longer series ends like tat.

Kpop stans have a superiority complex. My only complaint is Rachel at times coming off a bit younger than she is but considering Jessica is rainbows and sunshine 24/7, it's a given

I think Jessica or her ghost hv forgotten wat its like to be a teenage girl. Lol. Since i was never 1, i hv no idea if Rachel or any other teenage girl in Shine, especially Leah, acts their age. Im curious in wat way u think Rachel acts younger than her age. Also, being Korean-American transplant might affect her behavior, as well as being a kpop trainee. Some ppl think she's mixed race but i dont rmbr anything in the book or Jessica's life to indicate tat. I think not referencing Asian Tiger Mom stereotype/character is missed opportunity for co-branding, tho Jessica herself may hv missed knowing abt Asia Tiger Mom phenomenon.

Isn't Korean American mixed race though? Or do you mean something else. Like dual nationality was always mixed to me :o

No its not mixed unless its sth like Korean-Irish or sth like tat. The girls in Jenny Han trilogy were mixed race cos their dad was white n mom was korean.

So maybe some ppl thot Rachel was mixed race too. I might be wrong tho unless Shine explicitly says 1 way or the other. Jason Lee in Shine is mixed race cos his dad is white n his mom is korean.

Mixed race commonly means 2 different races, but it can mean different things too. For Asian races, it might mean local Thai-Chinese or some variant. Its 2 complicated 2 explain it all here. I think its an essay i dont hv time 2 write 4 u.
