hawkeye is on par with thiunderbolts?????
hmmmm...I didn't mind thunderbolts but to say it was on par with hawkeye is certainly a statement...
I didn't think it was as bad as other people claimed it to be
BND fits nicely between those two for but I'm really glad you enjoyed hawkeye since it showed us kate bishop and her relationship with Yelena is great
It is, and I agree with that, but I also have a bit of a personal connection to Thunderbolts*, so that's why I'm so biased. Funny story, I wasn't planning on watching it initially as I had never even heard of Yelena or most of the other Thunderbolts* before it came out, and the trailers didn't win me over back then. But, I was bored and had unlimited free movie tickets back then, and it didn't seem like a bad thing to watch, and I guess I didn't feel like watching something else.
So, I went into it and watched it and loved it a lot. Loved it so much I watched it four more times in theatres (only because of my unlimited free tickets, if I had to actually pay for the tickets, I probably would have only watched it in theatres once, twice at the most). Why I loved it so much is that I related a lot to Yelena, despite our very different fields of work and backgrounds. The movie came out in early May, and since January of the same year, I had been feeling the same way she felt throughout the beginning of the movie: empty inside, like a void, not feeling satisfied or happy (but not exactly the same, as at least I felt I had direction in my life and knew for sure what I wanted to do years in the future). Plus, we both tried throwing ourselves into our work, hoping it would help, but it didn't.
From last January until last April, I didn't think much of what I was going through. It did suck, but I couldn't think of why I would be feeling that way. My life hadn't gotten substantially worse than it was. I chalked it up to just getting older though. I did hear people say that most people sort of mellow out as they mature, so I assumed that is what was happening and it wasn't a big deal or a cause for concern, despite how much it was affecting me. Things that used to make me happy wouldn't make me as happy as they once did, I got less excited and happy for things, that sort of stuff. It was also a bit harder to pinpoint as the changes happened gradually, not overnight. Last January was the first time I consciously noticed the shift happening though.
So, when I watched Thunderbolts*, I related to Yelena and she hit a bit close to home for me, but in a good way. For the first couple of days after I watched Thunderbolts*, I assumed it was because of how nice she is to Bob, how funny I found her, that I find her cute, ect. After I reflected on the movie a bit more, I realized how much I related to her on a deeper level. Even though I didn't think much of the signs in myself, it was obvious to me that they were trying to show Yelena was depressed, even if they didn't openly say the word. Then I made the connection: "If I relate to how Yelena is feeling, and she seems a bit depressed, am I depressed too?" An important clarification: while I did make the connection, I never tried to diagnose myself or claim to anyone else that I was/might be depressed.
A while later, went to therapy, did some tests administered by those therapists, and found out that I am depressed after all (along with anxiety, but I had known about my anxiety for years, so that wasn't surprising to me). I have an extremely mild/small form of depression, especially when compared to people that have it much more severely than me, but it's enough for tesrs to say I have it to some degree. I am feeling better, but I'm far from out of the woods yet, so to speak.
One of the reasons why Thunderbolts* means so much to me is that it helped me recognize something that was wrong with me long before I would have on my own. If I hadn't seen it, I might still to this day think that nothing was wrong and everything was all normal; that I was just "growing up" and everyone was like that. I used to think I would never be the type to get depression because I used to be so full of life and passion. I still am on good days, but it's much less frequent. It's also hard for me to tell where the line is between "depression" and "maturing" when it comes to myself, but I think it's a combination of both in my situation.
Also, I know there are a ton of movies that deal with mental health, and probably a lot of them that even do it better. However, in my situation, it ended up being a case of the right movie, with the right characters, at the right moment in my life. This probably ended up being overly long, but I figured I should explain why I like Thunderbolts* so much. Not in an attempt to defend my answer, but to clarify it and hopefully it makes more sense.
If not for my connection to Thunderbolts*, then I think I might prefer Hawkeye over it, but Brand New Day would still easily be in third place for me.
