Some internet trends are so messed up (1 Viewer)

I have been seeing one lately where people use a filter that makes it look like they have a bruise and they “trick” people into thinking they have been seriously hurt. This just rubs me the wrong way. I don’t know if I am just being too overly sensitive. But it just feels wrong when some people have used the platform to speak out about domestic violence for example, and now people are doing it for views or laughs. I just don’t get it ​

i totally agree with you, why would you trick someone into that? that's a bad prank specially when you're posting it to a platform that has a community that speaks about these problems in reality and uses it as a way to show support and ask for others to do the same

no, you're right to feel this way. The people doing the trend are the insensitive ones, because it's basically mocking those who have actually been abused before. It's kind of in the same vein as using the word "cancer" as a bullying technique. So many people have suffered and most possibly died of cancer, my late aunt included, and it's not something to taken lightly - same as that stupid filter.

Firstly, who in their right mind decided to make that filter?? And secondly, you are so right. It is basically like mocking, even if they aren’t verbally saying it, actions speak way more louder

I don’t have as much of an issue with the filter as how it’s used, having a zombie/apocalypse/something similar aesthetic sure but definitely a no to trying it trick others with it. For many different reasons.

Yeah it’s the tricking part that I have have the biggest issue with too

That's honestly terrible. Why do people do such things for a lick of clout? Social media shouldn't be used to promote things like this.
There are stupid trends that put you at health risk such as "a spoonful of cinnamon challenge" or "eat a Tide Pod challenge" and then there are trends like this. There's a reason why I'm not on TikTok. That's where most of this traffic comes from.

People love to feel validated, it's in our psychology. It's a shame that some of us are willing to go to such great lengths like hurting ourselves, our image, or our morals for the chance to go viral. We could use the same amount of time to spread positivity throughout the world and still be praised for it or not have to risk our health or our personage.

Get some people some basic anonymity and they start acting strange. But I'm sure that things will get even worse, just wait until modern AI technology evolves further and reaches the mainstream. Generally I'm not against AI, but the potential for abuse of this technology is very high.
