how do companies determine how many members will be in their group? Like, do they pull from a hat, roll a die, or what?

Probably look at a variety of factors. For example, the current trend, how many trainees are ready, resources available, synergy of members, ect.

Trends is an interesting point. I think we're back in the upswing in group sizes again. For a while there, it felt like there was a real focus on 3-5 member groups, and lately, companies are swinging back towards 7+ members (RIIZE, BabyMonster, BADVILLAIN, ALL(H)OURS, 8turn, Ampers&one, Evnne, Hori7on, Lun8, N.ssign, TripleS, Xikers, etc.)

Yeah there's always a noticeable trend with group sizes. Though ofc theres also groups that specifically do the opposite to stand out so you get some of both at all times

yeah, like TXT has five members and all the other groups who debuted in 2019 were bigger, it seemed.

most of the time it depends on the makeup of the group

but randomly an interesting thing for the debutees/trainees to think about from a pure financial standpoint is that the more members in the group the less money they get...

(assuming ceteris paribus) BP members would split profits 1/4 whilst twice members would split profits 1/9
